RADIO GA-GA

Boy I screwed that quote option up didn't I. Meepster, it seems like you might be just a tad bitter about a past job or jobs in broadcasting. Hope you are happier in your current profession.

No..got over that a long time ago.
What makes me bitter about it is that it continues like a snowball down a huge hill, and nobody EVER has the guts to stand up to these people. I'm pretty sure that part of the reason many folks get pushed out is because they stood up. It seems that monthly, if not weekly, I hear of a radio friend of mine getting screwed out of a job they love and depend upon. It's mostly the corporate heads causing the blow-outs, but the usually spineless middle management never stand up for what they know is right.

The first thing they yell is "Sour grapes"! That's their answer to a lot of things.
BTW, Are YOU in radio? Have you ever been? If so, anything larger than a West Tennessee or Jackson market? If not, don't make any attempt to judge my opinions as "bitterness". I'm not bitter over my job(s) in radio. I loved every minute of every airshift I ever did. I loved meeting and partying with people (famous and NOT) that I'd have never met if I hadn't been in radio. I make a lot more money now and have a great deal more stability in my current profession than I ever did in radio.
Like you or somebody (me) said here before, the ones that love radio sure don't do it for the money. Even on the rare occasion when they make decent money...that alone is not worth the BS you have to put up with.

If half the names you mentioned could and/or would, they'd tell you that exactly what I described goes on every day.

I remain out of radio by choice, and am occasionally tempted to stick my toes back into the water. Then I have a two minute conversation with the likes of Mr. Elliott (2T's and 2 L's) and I instantly recall why I stay the F#&% out!

Hey, Nash...is John Thomas the same John Thomas who worked at 98 FM WLOT in Trenton in the early-mid 80's. I think he came up from L.A. (lower Alabama).

Thanks, Smartyradiopants, for saying Harvey was good when we were doing mornings. I thought I was pretty good too, sometimes. And here I go again, back into the hellmouth.
Buzz

Hey hollywood 1, You're going back into the hellmouth? Where?

Wow!

What an awesome thread.

If you want to have fun in radio, stick to small markets.
If you want to make money, find a different Job.

That's my current belief anyway.

"Whisperin' Bill Glass" is has taken over what was formerly my shift on Rock 92.3, and to be honest I haven't listened since I left,

but I will say this, I'm working more hours, doing production, a morning show, and sales, back up traffic and programming, making slightly more money, in a much smaller market,

AND HAVING THE TIME OF MY LIFE!!!!!

I miss the great folks that I worked with, and I learned alot from them, but I wouldn't trade what I'm doing now for almost anything

Gregg, miss you man, and I hope all is going well..

I must Say that I agree with most of this thread...

but I get to be myself, have fun, and do the best morning show that I physically can and I love it.

tune in if you ever between pinson and Booneville Ms.
the Dove 94 FM 93.9

one more thing...

Don't be too hard on Don "Two L's Two T's" he's not really a bad guy, just under alot of stress

Good luck with that!
I hope you can stay as happy there as you seem to be now.
Is "The Dove" another of those "franchised formats?" (Like Froggy, Jack, Movin', etc...)
Wondering because I know of a "Dove" Christian format at 94.3 around Dickson somewhere.
(We sold them all our left over "Froggy 94" stuff when they were a little Froggy station.)
The owners of that one bought a small AM here and have an FM in Alamo, too.
Just curious...have fun!

Meep!

Yes and No... there are a grand total of Three Dove stations... they used to be broadcast as one with repeaters, so it was literally one station, but we have branched them off and made them local and to put it simply "more better"...

So they are "kinda" a franchise with 94.5, 93.7, and 93.9 being the "Dove Network"

but I'm not like "Birdman and olive branch in the Morning" if that's what your asking. ha ha

Glad you're diggin your new gig J-Rod! Peace! :)

Yeah Gregg, It's going great... You should stop by some time and bring a cup of coffee... I'd say have a cup, but the Bunn is busted... augghhh.... no COFFEE... ha ha ... seriously we should do breakfast some time...
