RADIO GREATS WEEKEND ON THE BREEZE...

I'll tell you guys, it's pretty hard to concentrate on my Saturday midday shift while all these legends are walking around the halls of our building. Granted, alot of these DJ's were on air while I was either very young or not even born yet...but to have the pleasure to meet these people is truly an honor and a priviledge.

The likes of Bob Shannon, Herb Oscar Anderson, Joe McCoy just passing by in the halls and working in the studio right next door to the G Rock studio...to be able to hear Cousin Brucie on the phones...for a relative "youngster" in the business to be around these legendary jocks is just a great experience.

The highlight for me personally will be the Doo-Wop Shop with Don K. Reed tomorrow (Sunday night) from 5pm-8pm.

I hope you guys are checking this out because it really does sound great and it's great to be working right next door while this is all happening. (And I'm NOT just plugging it because it's the same company lol..it TRULY is amazing sounding)

Oh, I agree! It has been a pleasure listening to these icons of broadcast and cant wait for today's lineup. The endless talk breaks, the inside jokes, all the free publicity for CBS-FM....what a trip! KUDOS to all!

Too bad nobody in the 99.7 area has ever heard of any of these people...

Try getting some "radio greats" from WFIL and WIBG...

Greats of WFIL? Give me a break. You could do that between two songs...I'm just upset because they didn't do the Sopranos Greats Weekend. Maybe spread it out over a few weeks on each Friday. They could have played clips from the shows and had jocks babble on about a cable TV show instead of radio. Get some of the dead characters on too. Shame.

Not to offend anyone, but as I tuned in a couple of times, I couldn't help but wonder who the target audience was. I enjoyed the radio greats weekend the first time, and even the first few times that CBS FM did it. It was a novelty, and it was like getting together for a reunion with old school mates. I wanted to hear the old stories, and hear what my "friends" were up to these days. Sadly, like my class reunions, when the end of the night came, I knew it was time to go home, and things between me and my old friends HAD changed through the years. That brings me to The Breeze. Guys, the concept has been done to death already. The novelty was gone, and I found myself thinking that some of these guys sounded like they were basically there to stroke their own egos. I loved NY radio back in the day, but ow many reunions do I really need to attend. Like an old top 40 song that was once great, I'm afraid this concept is burnt to a crisp.

Dear SS,

You should start a discussion with a bigger block, like a 427 tri-power.

From 1966, WFIL had some of radio's best talent. Jim Nettleton (later at WABC, WCAU-FM and WOR-FM)
George Michaels (later at WABC, WRC)
"Dangerous" Dan Donavan
"Dr." Don Rose (KFRC)
Joey Reynolds (everywhere)
Jim O'Brien
Fennessey Brothers
Dave "The Rave" Parks

WFIL never tried to imitate WMCA, WABC, WLS, WCFL, WBT or WIBG. They were Famous 56. Period.

Do I get a prize if I guess what the last song in a Sopranos weekend would be? A certain Journey song???

HOW HACK!!!!!!!!!

regardless ... fantastic to hear wabc radio 77 guys .. plus , great to hear don tandler do 1969 , in the quality way don , the quality guy does

no offense , ss396 (awesome car - i mean it-especially when they were made real chevelle ss ' s from the late 60's to '70 , before tons of anti-pollution crap was hung onto a motor that was not designed for that) , but , ss396 , truly , wfil famous 56 had fantastic personalities ...and i was primarily a wibg radio 99 guy , so i am definitely being fair and sincere

and , yes i know that there were other ss's .... besides the chevelle

But why would you even think of comparing WCBS to WFIL when talking about legends of the business? That was my point.

Did anyone listening to the Breeze radio greats weekend happen to notice (as I did) that every time they played a locally produced commercial that it sounded somewhat "muddy" with no high end ?? !

All the agency spots sounded fine.

I was listening to a mono mix on my GE Super Radio and I realize that could be an issue

Question:

What is the effect of the concern you raise?
