If anyone is interested in REAL personality-driven radio, tune into Paul Berlin - Music And Memories online at:
http://www.ksevradio.com/paul-berlin.asp# Saturdays from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

Paul was the Dean of Broadcast Radio in Houston at the old KNUZ-AM and in the 70's when they went Country, he moved over to Easy Listening station KQUE-FM where he hosted the 10-2 spot until 1997 when the station was sold. He has been inducted into the Radio Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame.

He's forgotten more about what IS good radio than many of today's so-called radio professionals will ever know. Professionals of his calibre are either dead or long retired. I invite all to tune in on a future Saturday to "hear" for yourselves.

I started my broadcast career with Paul in 1990 at KQUE and never knew then that it would be the Best of Times, especially in light of the amateurs and idiots of the last decade I was subjected to prior to landing on KZQX.

Kudos to Dan Patrick and KSEV for the most inspired move I've seen in Houston - and Dallas - radio in a very long time. Go man go!

Unless Patrick is paying for the timeslot, thanks SHOULD go to current KSEV owner Liberman. Now let's get Mr. Berlin's show on the air over Patrick's 1160 here!

BTW, Paul Berlin began in radio in 1948 in Memphis, I believe, and moved to the Houston airwaves in 1950. Glad to hear he's back!

No, they gave me GOOD poop, and I neglected to read it through. My apologies. I'm just not used to seeing small-timers making any strides in the biz these days (can't get loans, can't get advertisers, can't keep a staff, can't pay competitively, can't afford a frequency OR a lease, etc.) Not into Dan's politics whatsoever, but if he can do a good turn for Paul Berlin and Mick Williams, I don't have a problem with it.

Obviously you did not read the other thread about KSEV and KVCE. Patrick NOW OWNS KSEV after buying it outright from Liberman.

I repeat: Patrick NOW OWNS KSEV after buying it outright from Liberman.

One more time: Patrick NOW OWNS KSEV after buying it outright from Liberman.

Okay???

Am I misreading your statement about Patrick, Mike? Dan has been in Houston television and radio since at least 1980. That's hardly a small timer.

No, that was not a mis-read. You made my point. He's been an independent time-lessee in Houston all those years, is that correct? And now he owns two stations, but was just one as recent as last December? Maybe he's been "something" in Houston all those years, but he's not a large corporation, and he still puts his wife's name on the deed (to get the preferential treatment that 'women-owned' businesses get, no doubt.) People in DFW still have no clue who he is. Similarly, I'd call KKDA-A/F (DFW) owner Hyman Childs a small-timer...and it has nothing to do with success or his long track record in the market...he owns three stations in the same market, is not a corporation, and has no other stations anywhere else. IN THE GRAND SCHEME, that's "small" to me. When it comes to money, however, he's done enormously well. I don't challenge that.

Now if you like or know Dan Patrick personally and all his political and broadcasting efforts and his dedication to whatever it is he's dedicated to, then that's fine. I'm merely talking about his broadcast holdings, and the success (or lack thereof) of each.

Mike, I am not trying to argue with you. I was simply asking you a question, that's all. What we're really talking about here is definition. I was talking years in the business from a standpoint of being on the air. You are talking about the business end of it. Mediafrog had answered the question about Dan's ownership which was in another thread here in which you had participated. Perhaps you had not seen it.

Dan previously owned KSEV in the late 1980s and purchased KPRC and then turned it around, sold both and made a profit. When KSEV was spun off, Dan purchased time on it until he could repurchase it. By the way, I do not know Dan, personally.

Not a problem, and I'm sorry for taking it the wrong way. I'll get attacked on here periodically for having a strong opinion AKA shooting my mouth off. Guess I was just in that mode.

Nah, I was hoping you might say, "YES! I'm a Dan Patrick fan and follower and am a major supporter of the Tea Party!"---that way, I could respond with the line, "Some Tea for the Tiller-man?!?" (with apologies to Cat Stevens.) ;D
