Radio in Macon has not been the same since...

Absolutely not.

Man, I miss the days of the "Nehi Grape thermomator" and "absolutely nothing in the prize hopper" and "the show running on fumes."

A true talent who is missed.

You're right, it hasn't been the same. It's been MUCH better!

Yeah, Rick Knight was a "true talent". A "true talent" who produced the exact same show every single, solitary day for years. Nothing new, nothing different, nothing special. His show could correctly be described as formula radio. He found a formula that worked and never deviated, no matter what the rest of the world was doing. He played the same canned liners for years, the same taped phone calls, and told the same stupid jokes over and over. The show wasn't any different his last month than when I first heard him in 1989. And that's most certainly NOT a compliment.

Now that I think about it, in his last couple of years on WDEN, he spoke more and more about his personal problems. That made the show more than just dull. It made it pretty uncomfortable to listen to.

Sadly, his show always drew good ratings. More than anything, that shows that success and talent do not always go hand in hand.

Incidentally, Rick Knight was recently convicted of allowing a meth lab to operate in a house he was renting but supposedly knew nothing about, and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

As I no longer live in the Middle Georgia area, I did not realize about Rick's personal problems. He is in my prayers. I wish him the best.

I still enjoyed his show when it was on WDEN. It brought a lot of smiles to my face. A good, enjoyable show, something that is sorely missed on today's radio for sure.

While I didn't care for it, at least his was a live, local show. Not some generic voice-tracking.

It does seem that live, local radio, with a host actually in the studio, is becoming a thing of the past. How sad. How pathetic on the part of station suits.

While traveling through Macon, I did discover that I like Gail Daniels, the midday announcer, on WDEN.
She sounds great on the air and was playing some classic country along with current tunes.
