Radio in Spartanburg on May 25, 2024

I like the music on 90.5, 92.5, 95.7 (just that song) , 102.5 (just that song), 104.7 (just that song), 106.1 and 106.3. I'm tempted to say i liked what I heard on 105.3. Old school, but hip hop? I already know I don't like the three stations where I said "just that song". I'm not sure how I feel about what was on 103.9. H.I.S Radio, Air1 and K-Love all sounded pretty bad, and so did WMIT.

It's a shame classical music on WDAV can't be heard.

Shane & Shane have already lost.

As expected, 104.7 is weak and begins to drop out due to the limtations of its signal regading Columbia. 96.9 comes in but is subject to translator interference from Greenville. Translator interference will also prevent the HD from locking on from 102.9 Charlotte in some areas. Tanslator interference also disrupts an HD lock for 105.3 in some areas. 99.3-WBT comes in but can be subject to interference from a same channel station in Georgia. 95.1 and 96.1 typically come in strong with a good HD lock. But not sure what happened with 107.9, as their HD signal is very srong and always locks on in Spartanburg and even in parts of Greenville despite interference there. Maybe you were just in a weak spot for WLNK. WSOC-103.7 comes in and sometimes an HD lock, but it is on the far side of Charlotte from Spartanburg.

Main Greenville-Spartanburg stations came in strong as expected, by I personally miss the old Magic format from WSPA, along with Awesome 99.5, and Earth FM. I will sometimes tune 102.5 the Lake, but I prefer the music mix on 102.9 the Lake from Charlotte better. And I listen to 107.9. For news and talk, I much prefer WBT over WYRD. I listen to WBT on 11.10AM, 99.3FM, and 107.9HD2 depending upon location.

Thanks for sharing the video. I’m actually the one that recorded it :) this was recorded right outside of USC Upstate for location purposes. I was surprised I couldn’t get a HD lock on 107.9 since I almost always get one in Laurens county.

Also in this video I briefly, barely got 107.5 WNKT from Columbia.

99.5 has a better signal in Spartanburg than 98.5, due to the fact 1400 WSPG’s FM translator is adjacent to 98.5 at 98.3. I kept wondering why I couldn’t get any RDS on 98.5 in Spartanburg since I have before, so must have been a weird day for 98.3/98.5. I’m not sure why the market has two FOX Sports Radio affiliates, I normally get 104.9 in HD in most of Spartanburg with a few drop outs only. 97.1, 97.5, 97.7, 98.3, and 104.9 seems like overkill in Spartanburg for a market that hasn’t exactly been a big sports talk market. 860/ 104.1 WLBG in Laurens also carries FSR.

I was in Charlotte this weekend and listened to 102.9 The Lake quite a bit. They were playing all 80s music for the weekend like 102.5 The Lake in GSP, but such a better variety, and their voiceovers and processing are much better as well.

WSPG and WLBG were already running FSR before iHeart moved the format from 1440 WGVL. Those three stations didn't have any significant primary contour overlap. 104.9's 60 dBu contour just catches the west side of Spartanburg and misses Laurens, but its upgrade to C3 and transmitter site on Paris Mountain do give it a good deal of bonus coverage.
