Radio in The Twilight Zone

There was a Twilight Zone episode in 1961 called "Static" about an old man living in a boarding house for the elderly lamenting the current entertainment on radio & TV.

He found an old radio in the basement that played radio from years ago, like Tommy Dorsey, Major Bowes, and Fred Allen.

At the end he and his long lost girlfriend ended up in the past and were young again with a second chance. Starred Dean Jagger.

With the loss of WBCN, WMKK, WFNX, WODS, & WGBH, it feels like we're living this.

Ha ha ha , good one. :D

Add WVBF "The Electric Mama" and WRKO-FM "Arko the automated robot." Oh, and of course WBZ-AM as a rock station.

By the way, that's Rod Serling.

When WCGY played oldies, they had one of the most interesting playlists.

There was some good radio on WEEI when it was all news (and CBS-owned). Also add WHDH and WITS.

WCGY had one of the deepest play lists for oldies. I'm thinking about around 1982. They would even add some old blues tracks.

The old man is kind of the image I get of the people griping about AMP 1033 and that a CHR plays Nicki Minaj every two hours. LOL!

Yeah, you sure got that one right. This is true horror.

"Get off my lawn you little punks!" time to tune in some big band music to calm me down...

And how about the old WJIB? The home of Bob Mehrman, Kevin Linnegan and more? And who remembers the old WHIL-AM-FM? How about the old WILD? Or WLYN-AM-FM in Lynn? How about WCAS? Or the old WHDH? Remember all those AM radio stations that had to sign-off at sunset? Yeah, I remember all those!

There were a lot of Beautiful Music stations WJIB, WSSH, WHAV, WCOZ, WWEL, WHUE, WZID then the genre seemed to die all at once.

Remember short lived WTTK 100.7 "Progressive Country?" Sometime around 1977, I think.
