Radio Industry Metadata Questions from Adobe

Hi All.

Some Questions from Adobe regarding your usage of what is called "Radio Industry" metadata in the CoolEdit through Audition 3 UI:

  • Which fields do you regularly use and how?
  • For "Start Date" and "End Date" what is the date format that you and your other software use? We prefer ISO standard compliant format of YYYY-MM-DD, but I've seen screenshots (http://www.bsiusa.com/software/info_edit/info_editor.php) that suggest MM/DD/YYYY. For your automation systems, what do they expect?
  • Since these fields actually go against the actual RIFF WAVE specification (see comparison here http://www.aelius.com/njh/wavemetatools/bsiwave_tag_map.html), Tooltips for these fields would need to be created to better describe/suggest the intended usage for the Radio Industry. Suggestions?

Similar thoughts on CART Chunk:

  • Do you use it?
  • Which fields do you use and how?
  • Which CART timers do you use and how?

Thanks for any feedback you can give. This is my first post to this forum, but I normally listen and respond to customer posts on the Audition user forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/audition

I've never seen anyone use Audition/Cool Edit in this way in 10+ years in radio.

Everybody I know produces in Au/CE and then uses the automation software for tagging and metadata.

Entering it in Audition is so cumbersome and ridiculous as to make it a waste of time.

Hello! I registered just so I could answer your post. I use the Radio Industry metadata in Audition 1.5 on a daily basis.

I use the DESCRIPTION, ADVERTISER, OUTCUE, START DATE, and END DATE fields. Our automation software also uses those fields.
I also use the the PRODUCER, TALENT and ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE fields, although our automation software doesn't.
I usually set into/sec tones in the automation software, but it's nice to have the feature in Audition.

It's nice to keep spots organized and labeled as I save them over the network instead of opening them up in another application. I was sad to see that I couldn't find this metadata information in Audition CS5.5

You are putting too much into this.

Title your spots like this:

Client - Spot title - mm dd yy.wav at 256/44100

If you're using NexGen or AudioVault, it will import that info into the description field.

Mediatouch also brings in the Cart Chunck Title and Artist as well as Start and End Date and Time in the CART metadata tab. It is a very helpful and time saving feature. I have not figured out which field MediaTouch uses for MUSIC ID tag in MediaTouch Production.

We do cart chunk on Audiovault. It imports it fine.

In adobe, we fill out Description, Artist/Client, Category, and Start and End date as well. AvImport sucks all that AND the cue points in.

After we drop the Adobe file in the import folder, it is good to go.
