RADIO INDUSTRY STRATEGY-THE FORMAT CHANGES?

Hi Di-Jo! You there?

It's Wednesday, are you thinking about a new surprise for Friday at 3:00 or 4:00 PM, Wall Street is closed at that hour? Can't enter your changes for your shares?

Could be WPLJ changing to "country"? La Mega to "Hurban" or Religious? Imagine Lite FM to Spanish? What an "uproar" from listeners. Oh no, Lite FM was "sleepy music" but we want it back, it was an Icon in NY. You can't do that to all those great radio personalities.

Start doing your Radio ESP forecast. Will they leave this Friday without making a move? To prove you wrong?

No one from radio is going to come here to say oh you are right, those are our plans. No they have to put people to make a fool of you (me). How to dare to talk about radio "things".

That's for us to know and for you to "shut up". Sounds like the "liners" from the Jack formats?

Could be this the strategy?

Change formats where people less expect it. Remove radio personalities to cause the people wrath!

While all the radio stations in New York and in other states have already the approval from FCC, to have their IBOC system installed in their radio stations to provide the CD quality sound and the "three channels" that allow to transmit three formats?, they need to provoke people. And what better way that to make victims the radio stations and radio personalities that are like icons? People will feel nostalgic, "Oh how much I miss the station and "this or that" radio host.

Bingo, that was all radio stations corporations had in mind, radio industry is in a "weak" period but not defeated, yet. They are good players!

It's summer young people like to go to concerts, and radio stations can use that to make some money to recover from the budget that they need to put aside to cover the new system.

The audience 34-55 those are my numbers, ok, will be disappointed, wondering why they did that to us?

Young people have their Ipods, mp3-s, Internet.... We are the ones who really listen to radio, music, news, talk shows, but young people do not pay too much attention to radio.

Exactly that's the point, when the marketing for the new High Definition Radio begins, there is where Radio Industry will become "the saviors" ''heroes" again...dear listeners we were just working for a better audio and variety in how to transmit different formats with this new technology, called IBOC.

If you buy our new HD radios, recall radio industry have their "eggs" in the manufacture of this new concept in HD radio too. So listeners you buy the radios, you help the radio industry to keep going, your favorite radio personalities will return hosting your favorite formats in radio, and you will enjoy all the features this type of radio brings, ex: downloading music, more interactive!

But the thing is that for you to have a "good, great sound quality, cool features, and able to listen to different formats with your cool DJ's you will have to pay, around $200-???, depends what style of radio you choose.
But you can pay it in installments.

That you are not going to pay for an expensive radio to listen to ads, and again the playlist control by the radio moguls. Hey that is what you say when Cable TV, and VCR come to our lives. And there you are with all these gadgets to brag about having the status $$$ to pay for them. So sorry, it's
like rabbit antennas, no longer you can use them to watch tv, like that new
tv that hungs in the wall of your living room.

Understand radio listener is the way it is with technology, changing this and that to keep up. The same way you have to change your computer, again and again. When you thought Bill Gates will stop making new versions of Widows, no, can't stop, that is what keep the manufacture of new computers going and going and going.

Thay we played you? Well, but it was done by having you in our thoughts all the time, to give you the best. Since you deserve the best. You thought we weren't listening to you, oh, how come?

Now what about that perfect gift for Christmas, a HD radio, three formats, your favorite DJ's back, ah, so you thought we weren't giving what the audience wanted ah?

No we just put the DeeJays and your favorite radio formats "on hold", to create the anxiety, to move the audience to where we wanted to take them, playing "mind games", well what if we call it "strategy" the "awe" factor!

Di-Jo what do you think?

Format changes are very, very seldom pre-announced. Since the dawn of format radio in the 50's, format changes have been kept secret until the last minute.

"Sorry, guys, we are changing format and the new staff is in the motel down the street and the carts are all in a box in the PDs office."

Formats are often changed on Friday afternoon, as Friday is often payday, so the final checks can be written and the chance of the fired staff doing damage is reduced.

Typical format change story: Fired jock goes into studio with a hand held bulk eraser and erases all the music carts. Version 2: fired jock goes into production room "to get his stuff" and pees in the board.

In general, formats are changed because the management sees greater long range potential in a new format. In some cases, high billing stations are changed because of the longer range potential.

I once changed a market leading FM biller because I projected much greater potential with a new format. We changed format at 6 PM on a Friday, and that was in December, 1978! So the Friday afternoon change is pretty established.

Re: THE FORMAT CHANGE

Hi David,

How things are going? Good?

I mean that talking to you is the same as if
I were greeting Univision!

Ok, Univision, thanks for your reply.

Good luck all the way down, oops meant up!

Live in Peace, Talk in Peace and leave in peace.

Good Evening Di-Jo!
