Radio-info regular Neil Millman has passed. He was 47.

This morning at 3:05 a.m., Radio-info regular Neil Millman passed away from cancer. He was 47.

I became friends with him because of this board. My wife and I visited him last night. He had 30,000 songs on his laptop. We played a lot of Beach Boy (his earlier request), but the last song I chose to spin was Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care." To the end, this inveterate Cubbies fan was a class act, an incredibly smart guy with a big heart. The Jewish community, especially B'nai Torah, was crucial to his comfort as the end neared. It's apropos he died on Passover. His funeral is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday. Location TBA

As he facetiously noted on this board over the years, he was the potential savior to Dave FM. Unfortunately, management there never took him up on the offer to be the program director. Still, we all know Dave staff read his missives. And since he has passed, I don't think he'd mind me exposing to the world that he had a crush on Mara Davis. He contributed frequently to Mara's Radio Free Lunch so he did indirectly program the station the best he could from the outside. She visited him while he was sick and undoubtedly, he was thrilled.

Since this board switched to the current server in 2003, he posted 1,655 times. His final post was Feb. 28. His descriptive: I am a GOLDEN GOD! The man who single-handedly changed the face of Atlanta Radio. A paragon of moral courage.

To me, he was just a good friend. Rest in peace, buddy.

Some of us board veterans got to hang out with Neil and he was always warm, friendly, and a fun guy to be around.

When I left Atlanta last year, he sent me a very touching, personal message of best wishes. I have thought about that message a lot these last few months.

Neil will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace as the PD of a mega-successful radio station on the other side.

I want to echo what Brian said in the post above this one. Neil was friendly and a fun guy to be around.

Neil was also very interesting to speak with. He loved Chicago (his former hometown), the Cubs and radio. And finally, he was a major contributor to Radio-Info, not only in the number of times he posted, but in what he said. He could be very funny and sometimes controversial. He got the attention of everyone who reads the Atlanta board.

Rest in peace, Neil.

I read but seldom participate in these boards. But I wanted to give a salute to Neil. His sense of humor was always sharp, his ability to view and describe issues that he enjoyed or bothered him went far beyond his experience and he was always a delightful read...even when I was at the point of his barbs.

I'm saddened we won't make it to the Todd Rundgren show. I'll save the seat next to me for him. The ATL boards will miss him.

The guy brought game and content every time. No choice but to respect.

Nill Millman single-handedly saved my life in 2009, when I announced on Facebook (while working a job in Chicago), that I was planning to walk by myself later that evening at 9pm to the Loop to catch the Chicago subway blue line to a Hanukkah party on Milwaukee Ave. Neil was emphatic that on my return trip walking by myself late at night near the subway station would result in my immediate demise. I took a cab. Later, I repaid him the favor when I learned he had become more involved with his Judaism and had joined B'nai Torah, it was my honor to help introduce Neil to the the broader Atlanta Jewish community.

I miss you friend.

from a cousin:

"The funeral time has changed to 2:00 on Tuesday. This will make it easier for travelers to attend."

When there's more information Rodney or myself will post here.

Wow, so sad to hear about this. I thought this might've been an April Fools joke until I saw that the thread was created today. Rest in peace, Neil.

Rest in Peace.

I had noticed his posts were absent for a time.

He always posted with good humor and good nature, and a good bit of insight.

What a loss.

Always enjoyed his commentary. An incredible loss in many ways.

You will be missed.

Strongest member of this very insightful board! He will surely be missed!

RIP!

Well, I've never worked in Atlanta but have always enjoyed reading your posts about the market and that included Neil...maybe Dave FM can make him on Honorary PD on the day of the service. 47 is way too young. ???

This is the official funeral announcement. In Jewish tradition, there will also be a gathering held after the funeral, so the funeral is this Tuesday, the "shiva gathering" will be the following Sunday on April 15 (this would usually happen sooner, but it Passover holiday delays it). And they are not mutually exclusive of each other, feel free to attend one, the other, or both:

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Neil Millman.

The Funeral will be held at Crestlawn Memorial Park (2000 Marietta Boulevard NW, 30318) on
Tuesday, April 10 at 2:00 PM

A shiva gathering for friends will be held on Sunday Night, April 15 at 7:30 PM at the home of Leonard and Julia Sacks
1145 Old Powers Ferry Road NE, Sandy Springs, 30327).
Please RSVP to Julia [email protected] if you plan to attend.

followup on final arrangements from Neil's rabbi. If your one of those people who might fall into the catagory that he references below, PM me and I'll connect you two:

"Dear Friends,

It is perhaps very appropriate that Neils' final exodus took place at Passover night, on the anniversary of the Jewish people's exodus. Neil was very serious about not using his phone on the Sabbath and festivals, so there, too, it is only appropriate that I've been "off air" for much of the time since his passing.

This is to confirm that funeral services will be held at Crestlawn memorial park (2000 Marietta Blvd, Atlanta GA 30318) at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 10th. A gathering for friends will be held on April 15th at 7:30 PM at the home of Leonard and Julia Sacks
1145 Old Powers Ferry Road NE, Sandy Springs 30327. Please RSVP to Julia [email protected] if you plan to attend.

I am finalizing plans for the funeral service itself. Neil was a man who loved words, and had many friends from many walks of life. For practical purposes, there is a limit to the number who will be able to speak graveside- let me know as well if you feel strongly that you would like to speak. Alternatively, let me suggest that if there are stories that you think Neil would want shared, let me know that and I will make sure that they are incorporated in the service, within reason. In addition the gathering next Sunday night will provide another opportunity to share our memories and reflections."

Like many here, I am not one of those members who frequently post messages here but read them to hear about radio news. From time to time, I do see a few of Neil's postings, and I mostly read what he has to say. He is very insightful, knowledgeable, and delivers his comments in an unbiased manner. Although I personally don't know him, he looks like that type of person who you could easily strike up a conversation with due to his unbiased demeanor, and his knowledge of Atlanta radio helps my understanding of what is going on through our radio stations here. At 47, he passed away too young. It comes to show that you are here today but gone tomorrow. Much prayers for him and his family. I am sure someone on this forum will have a dedication to him and the work he contributed here.
