Radio is boring in Louisville

I keep reading news all over this site about stations changing, but here in Louisville it's just the same old thing. Nothing much changes anymore.I do have to say that I'm glad WSFR FINALLY dropped that stupid slogan "The most classic rock music not classic talk". Seemed like they were accusing WQMF of airing talk shows from 1985 or something! :)
I was glad when WAKY returned, but they seem to have gotten stale. Would like them to be more like WCBS FM in New York.
What do you guys think should change in Louisville radio?

I want the fox unless they have already get rid of premium choice. A bad station to listen to!!!

Even though i am not a liberal and cant stand obama i still say get a liberal just 1 talk show on the air. Ed schultz or stephanie miller would be a good choice.

It's so ironic that 40-45 years ago when there were half a dozen AM stations, Louisville was the home of an exciting top 40 battle...far from a boring market. Now there's 3-4x as many stations & it's boring. Maybe it's because the whole market runs off of computers rather than with live people on the air? ANY format is more interesting when the public can phone the studio & the air personality can react/interact with that person over the air. If radio continues to insist on competing with iPods, the boredom will continue until the last person goes home.

Amen Bob! Who could forget KJ-100 AM & FM and the lateral replays? Bobbie Hatfield and C.C. "Praise The Lord" Matthews :) The processing on WDJX in the early days was awesome AND Louisville was home to mega-talent Gary Burbank (WHAS). Voice tracking killed the radio star :'(

Maybe it's the fact that there are 3-4 x as many stations is the reason why they run off computers. That was the mistake. Having more stations diluted their value. Or maybe the fact that computers exist now and didn't then is the reason why stations use them. Or maybe increased competition doesn't lead to stations taking more chances, but rather playing it safe, because the stakes are much bigger. It's easier to take a chance on music when you have a 20 share.

I did find something good on radio today. WVEZ Lite 106.9 is doing a rewind weekend playing mostly 80's songs. Just a few I heard were: Addicted To Love, U Got The Look, Rag Doll, I Want A New Drug (Happy Birthday tomorrow, Huey Lewis!), and Centerfold. Good to hear songs no one else plays anymore.

98.9 and GEN X are doing good fun stuff. 106.9 sounded fun today doing the rewind. 970 is coming to life with Joe Elliott's show, plus I'm liking the 970 local news-traffic-weather-sports updates in morning and afternoon drive. 680 is doing great local stuff and seem to be staying on the air lately. I love Leesa on WAKY. 1080 sounds good with there local sports shows.

I don't agree that radio in Louisville is boring. Only a few stations in general are boring.

WMJM (Magic 101.3) has been playing Classic R&B from the 70's, 80's and 90's all weekend long. I haven't heard some of these cuts in over 20 years. They are calling it the "Old School Takeover Weekend." I also noticed the fun sound of the "80's Rewind Weekend" on WVEZ (Lite 106.9) as well. WLRS (105.1 FM Talk) has added local news on the top of the hour on weekdays and local weather updates around the clock including weekends. I have to agree with Radioville's comments on WAKY, WGTK, GEN X and 98.9 RADIO NOW. Louisville radio is better than it was five years ago.

Louisville music radio is actually not too bad for the market size compared to similar markets. Cox is a great company, but their stations are so bland. Hopefully the new Director of Programming (who is a very smart guy) will let the staff take some risks and create compelling radio.

But those songs you mentioned on light 106.9 rewind are songs that are so burnt out you can here those anywhere n any variety hits stations light rock stations they are not oh wow songs that is for sure.marry the both together!!!

Give me a icicle works, whisper to a scream, prince, most beautiful girl in the world, or darling nikki by prince, or elvis costello veronica, or howard jones life in one day, or haddaway life, or buz lehrman dont forget the sunscreen, or squeeze black coffee in bed or flock of seagulls with spaceage love song all these were pretty well known hits and deserve attention but the same old same old i will change the station!!!

Marry them together but for christ sakes change it up a bit and play some variety and something different!!!
