Radio is Dead?

Just saw some research that would seem to contradict those of you who think that "radio is dead". In the most recent Arbitron, 84%(263,100 persons 12+) of the total population in Montgomery listened to one of the commercial radio stations during the week...and that doesn't count non-commericial or religious product. Does radio have issues? Yes. Is radio dead? Nothing used by 84% of the population on a weekly basis be considered dead. BTW, on a national basis, Research Director Inc. just did an analysis of major radio markets and found that "persons using radio" levels are actually up for adults 18-24 and 25-54. There are significant losses with 12-17 year olds - dropping to an all time low.

Rick,

I couldn't agree more. Radio isn't dead.

Radio is not dead now but based on the above sentence its future is not bright. If you don't have them at 16 its hard to get them later. As I have said before, my daughter is 21 and was raised in radio stations. She nad her friends never listen to radio unless they are in the car with me. Even then she has her ipod most of the time. I don't profess to know what radio needs to do to get this audience back but it needs to do something. Where are the Bill Drakes and Paul Drews of this generation?
