Radio is out of touch!

Radio One CHR WNOU-FM (RadioNow 100.9)/Indianapolis along with Lincoln Financial's CHR WRST-FM (Star 94)/Atlanta and Beasley CHR WXKB-FM (B103.9)/Fort Myers have jumped on the bandwagon to remove recording artist Chris Brown from its airwaves.

HaHaHaHa...what a joke! Again, RADIO thinks they still matter... HaHaHa...I guarantee you especially with the urban crowd they will still listen and buy Chris Brown's music.

Just like when the idiots at cumulus decided to ban the dixie checks their sales went UP!

Wake up RADIO! You're Ineffective. Play what the people want to hear not a bunch of record thugs, CONsultants and out of touch radio programmers.

You are right. I hate the Dixie Chicks, as a fan of real country, but if I were programming a station and the listeners wanted them I'd put them on. I might turn my own radio down while they are on but if you are going to be successful you need to play what your audience wants.

As for Chris Brown, there are no real details out yet, what I've seen is just rumor and "National Inquirer" type stuff. I would think in fact that the curiosity factor would drive more people to check out his stuff.

Back to the country angel. Johhny Paycheck (Take This Job and Shove It)actually killed a man in a bar fight in Ohio but went on to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry, after getting out of prison, and is still played on Classic/Legend format stations. I don't think that whatever Chris Brown did rises to that level.

How many market boards did you post this on, BossJock? This is the third time I've seen this topic today (Indiana, NYC, and now LA).

Frankly, I tend to agree with you, though. If I were the PD and this happened, I wouldn't "ban" the artist from airplay. If he had any singles in my power category, I might drop them to recurrent in my music scheduler, at least until the furor dies out.

I also don't see why there is so much attention focused on him and his alleged misdeed.

if i were programming today...i would play Chris Brown every hour at the top of the hour until the REAL story comes out. Just like I played the Dixie Chicks. At the time MY audience was 70% in favor of still playing them 30 % against. As a very young PD when John Lennon said the Christ statement I played the beatles EVERY Hour :D

For someone who thinks so highly of his past career, it's funny how a google search of your name only turns up 142 posts on this website.

Whose poll did you get that figure from? They never got 70% favorable.

The first rule of programming is you program to the audience, not to yourself. Maybe that's why you're a former PD.

BossJock - a PD who alienates 30% of your audience.
When did you last program? And, how many months did that gig last?
70% positive is lousy.

In our Southern market, real research showed a 50/50 split on the Chicks.
We dropped their songs quick. Over time we have brought some songs back
as the research has shown some softening of dislike for them.

Last time I checked 1998 was pre 9/11/2001.

Just another lie from someone who tries to make himself sound important and cannot remember what he has made up in the past......Oh what a tangled web we weave.......
