Radio is out of touch!

Radio One CHR WNOU-FM (RadioNow 100.9)/Indianapolis along with Lincoln Financial's CHR WRST-FM (Star 94)/Atlanta and Beasley CHR WXKB-FM (B103.9)/Fort Myers have jumped on the bandwagon to remove recording artist Chris Brown from its airwaves.

HaHaHaHa...what a joke! Again, RADIO thinks they still matter... HaHaHa...I guarantee you especially with the urban crowd they will still listen and buy Chris Brown's music.

Just like when the idiots at cumulus decided to ban the dixie checks their sales went UP!

Wake up RADIO! You're Ineffective. Play what the people want to hear not a bunch of record thugs, CONsultants and out of touch radio programmers.

Full disclosure - I program a radio station (not CHR) that works hard to be a local, IN TOUCH, part of our community. I will agree that many times we in the business are out of touch. But you missed the boat big time here, BossJock. And comparing it to the Dixie Chicks incident compounds your mistake..

Did you miss the story that started this all? Or this follow up story?
BEASLEY Top 40 WXKB (B103.9)/FT. MYERS got a call from the BBC's RADIO 1, and they grabbed some audio of local listenerners tell B103.9 to pull CHRIS BROWN's music in the wake of the bru-ha-ha with RIHANNA this past weekend.
This is not the case of "record thugs or CONsultants". This is the case of a radio station involving its listeners in the discussion of a current event, and responding to their concerns. In this case, they are doing what you suggest - "playing (OR NOT PLAYING) what they want (OR DON'T WANT) to hear."

I'd be curious to know if Radio Now did the same thing or just "jumped on the bandwagon" for the publicity.

This got the radio stations free publicity. There aren't many record company people left, and consultants are fading away too as budgets are cut back.

Here's the story from Radio and Records "Street Talk"
RadioNOW PD/afternoon jock Tim “Rayne” Rainey explains his decision to ST Daily: “We let the listeners of RadioNOW 100.9 decide if we should continue to play Chris Brown’s music, and 52% of them said we should suspend his music until his legal matters are resolved. ... We are encouraging our listeners to speak out against domestic violence. Domestic abuse is never the answer.”
I'd say they are on the side of the angels here. What a great way for a station to "be in touch" with it's audience.
