Radio is sad

Today a little after noon I turned on WAKY and they were playing In My Life by The Beatles and Brick House by The Commodores. At the same time!!! What??? How can this happen during the middle of a weekday? (Or anytime for that matter) I wonder if there was anyone there at the station or anyone else listening who noticed it.I remember the days where there was always someone at the stations and you call in to them.I wouldn't even know how to report something like this anymore.Radio is sad :(

I was listening to the oldies station in la krth 101 not to long ago and they played depeche mode enjoy the silence followed by the bee gees stayin alive. WTF

I think you missed the point.WAKY didn't play those two songs back to back. They played them at the same time and it seems that there was no one at the station that even noticed.

Considering there are anomalies that could have caused this to occur besides no hand on the wheel most people would just listen with curiosity or, if it bugged them enough, hit the pre-set. In the old days we used to love to call the station (where the poor engineer would often answer the phone) to tell him what he already knew - dead air. I don't think most people care anymore.

Or they simply realize that there's no one likely on the other end to pick up that ringing phone, so why even bother? I'm amused that the title of this thread is what it is, yet only provides critique of a little class B AM station in Louisville, Kentucky. I suppose WAKY is now representative of radio as a whole.

...and they say the majority of us are slow down here in Texas.

I don't know about you, but I don't call people unless I have to. Because if you call any office, you go into some kind of automated system. At one time, you call a radio station, and at the worst you get a secretary or receptionist. Those jobs were eliminated ten years ago. You don't get a human. It's not just in radio. My dentist doesn't have a receptionist. He has an office manager. She's too important to answer the phone. He has an automated system that sends you to a web site, where you fill out your problem, and maybe they'll call you back. I can give you a list of businesses I call, from my lawn service, tree trimmer, plumber, etc. No live human receptionist. Press 1 for this, 2 for this, 3 for this, etc. What number do I press when you're playing two songs at the same time?

You and I both. I absolutely loathe the telephone. Unfortunately, within my line of work, the phone is still very much an integral part of conducting business. Sure you can book online, through the hotel's membership rewards application, via a 3rd party vendor's online service, etc., etc., etc.

Yet, here we are, still processing reservations over the telephone. This is one industry that will likely always have a live operator for dispatching both telephone and radio calls. An automated system just isn't capable of performing the same functions involved in what my operators do on a daily basis and still maintain the high service standards that are demanded by our clientele.

Ah, the life of an innkeeper.
