Thats why I retired. I used to go to major markets like LA, San Diego, SF....talent has died off....The only station I can stand to listen to in LA is Power 106...although I am much older than any demos they program for, I respect a good-sounding station. They are true to themselves!
In San Diego, there's Jef and Jer on Star, and thats it! 91X isn't the 91X I knew and loved...same thing with KROQ(quit playng the Beastie Boys, please!)
In SF, that market is even more screwed up....at least there's True Don Blue on K 101...KFRC is such a waste now...a few years ago, Bobby Ocean was on fire, and the numbers were there to prove it! KFRC without Bobby Ocean is like a beach without sand....
While Vegas may or may not be the best market, many suffer the same casualities...and it will(unfortunately) only get worse....Too much voice tracking and no training ground for new talent and fresh ideas....the same old tired promotions(some stations dont continue to market themselves at all these days) same old tired music(they dont want to spend a dime to find out what the audience likes....it's sad. I am happy I was in it when it was fun.
I wish all that can remain in this crazy biz the best. Thank god I have Sirius where I can hear "good radio." So many stations here are crumbling....Xtreme radio isn't Xtreme....Mike Stern was the only PD that understood what made that station tick....i will never forget the 1st fathers day promotion they did...they gave away Dr. Joel Kaplan penis pumps all weekend...for the father who has nothing.....freakin hysterical!
KKLZ without veteran Dan Lea and decent music---its a waste of a good signal....Kim Kelly can't walk a block in his shoes...can't until she's gone so I can listen to someone else---annoying! Put the station out of it's misery and change formats already....you're getting sandwiched by Lotus anyway...let it go and do the rest of Vegas a favor...try something else! No more Junefest? That was the best! Junefest song of the day! My kids and I went to all of them---now theres no reason to listen....I get better on classic rewind, channel 15 on Sirius, thank you!
