Radio Jobs for Aussies?

G'Day all.

I am a young Australian program producer/researcher & broadcaster who would love to work within radio in the US. My specialty is talk but had my training in Music radio.

The question is the following:
Are there any Australians (or Brits) that are already working within the US Radio industry and would PD's be open to an Aussie (provided the correct procedures are followed) to work there.

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

While living in Flint, Michigan in the late 80's, our local station WWCK 105.5 had hired a Brit named Ian Richards. According to the local paper, his background was in Classical music at the BBC. I think the locals regarded him as something of a novelty act...this chap with a charming accent filling the mid-day shift. I have some limited knowledge of work visas for foreign citizens, but unfortunately have no idea which would apply to broadcast personalities. But obviously, it can be done. Good luck!

Actually... the agreements between US & Australia are quite good and make that part of it relatively easy (there's an aussie specific work Visa!) . Not too many Aussies swimming in to US seeking refuge!

If you're talking about the E3 .. good luck!!! Most classifications in the broadcasting industry in the US are currently categorised as having "negative growth".

Contact NPR/PRI and individual public radio stations. Public radio carries the BBC and they, and their listeners, love Anglo accents. And then there's Rupert Murdoch, who still may have a soft spot for Aussies. Are you good with crocodiles? Good luck.
