Radio Legend Retires

Except for a short time, who's the legend behind the microphone that's been on the air at Miss 103 since 1981? If you guessed Art Reed, you're right. Yesterday was his last show at Miss 103. He decided it was time to take a break and retire. There's an artice about him retiring in yesterdays Southern Style section of the Clarion Ledger. I don't know about ya'll, but I'll miss getting to hear Art everyday. Who do ya'll think will come in to replace him? Personally, I'd like to see Janelle Roberts doing middays?

Maybe they will get Graham Jasper ( better known as " Brock Owen " ) from Mix 98.7 . Miss 103 is about the only place in Jackson he hasn't worked .

Re: Radio Legend Retires-Art Reed

WOW! Art Reed! I got to work with Art at WJDX-AM, back around 1971. Great guy! Congrats to him!

By the way, does anyone ever hear where another WJDX vet is now, Bill Crews? I haven't heard anything about him in decades. Must be out of the business. Or IS he?

Hey mark, a few years back he was working on 95 country in Natchez.i sold them a fm cp i had over in Louisiana and i remembered hearing him.never met him ,but he seemed like a nice person.this was about 4 years ago.

I think someone told me a little while back that Crews was working at an oil change place in Natchez.... I remember when he used to hide the coffee in the ceiling on Beasely road.

Excuse me, Bro, but don't want to sell Bill short. He actually owned the oil change place. Always was a shortage of coffee and sugar while Crews was at JDX. By the way, someone earlier mentioned Brock not ever working at Miss-103. He did work at Katfish 95 while I was there. He was, as they say, in the building.

Wow, Artimus Reedimus is retiring and I'm still working.....go figure! Art's a great guy and I wish him well in his retirement.

art reed if i am not mistaken has been with miss 103 the entire time its been on the air. imo he was one of the reasons for their extremly high arbitron numbers in the 80s. can you say 18 share ;D good luck art if you read this board.

How many know that Art was at am WJQS playing country in the early 1970's?...Along with John Friskello and a bunch of other first class jocks?...they were real promoters in that era, and brought many country "spectaculars" to the coliseum...I.E. >>>Waylon, Willie, Charlie, Bobby H. and , of course, the possum
(George Jones)...those were the days that 15 dollars would buy a night of great country entertainment.....( Read "am " as AM...thanks)...JBI

Art has been in the country radio business for a long long time. I had the pleasure of working with him at Miss 103 for a few years and he was always a class act. Enjoy your retirement Art!

Art Reed is one of those people who inspired people to get into the biz, including me. Congrats to him and I know I'll miss hearing him in Jackson.
