Radio Magazines?

Are there any good quality radio magazines out there? I'm looking for a magazine that will actually be on paper, not via the internet or PDF files, and preferably more centered on terrestrial radio than anything else.

If anyone knows of one and could recommend a magazine I look into, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Lauren,

There are a few. It depends on ehat you are looking for. I read The Main Street Tattler is a regional trade,
Talkers which comes monthly, Talktadio News I only see my copy once a month after the owner, ops, and PD
are done scalping it. Engineering types may like Radio World. and finally Billboard is still printed.

There are many others... I just don't know what exactly you are looking for.

Hi Beave! Thanks for throwing out some names that I will look into.

My ideal magazine would be this: A lot of talk about programming, playlists, research, and even possibly including a lot of talk on the oldies or classic hits formats, too.

Billboard no longer reports on radio. Vox Jox was dropped ten years ago.

Radio Ink is worth glance and let's not forget R & R.

Radio Ink caught my eye actually, but I couldn't determine from the website whether or not it was online subscriptions, or actual magazines that will be sent in the mail.
Thanks, Rob!

Is Popular Communications still around?

That's not a trade magazine for the broadcast industry in the US; it's a DX and radio hobbiest publication.

...so? Lauren didn't specify 'trade magazine,' just magazines about terrestrial radio...

She was quite specific in wanting format discussions, playlists, etc. Popular Communications is more interested in some pirate SW station from Belgium than in local US market commercial radio.

Lauren... Google this... "radio trade magazines"

you should get over 20 links

What about format discussions and playlists of pirate stations in Belgium ???

I hope she reads Flemish...

What do they say, David... as you can probably guess safely and accurately: "Lauren no speaka de duetsch", though I'm okay with Spanish (after 3 years of it in H.S.). ;D

Beave, thanks for the suggestion which I have done, but I'm still mostly getting online magazine results (which is what I don't want). Unless radio trade magazines coming in the mail are so old-fashioned today...

Amazing. Very few people know that Flemish is really a dialect of Dutch. I only know from being there on several occasions... it's one of those "quaint" European idiosyncrasies.

R&R is printed, and weekly, but is about $320 ore somesuch a year, with Billboard being around that amount, too. For technical folks, Radio World is printed, too. If you are in the biz, it's free.

Broadcasting is mostly cable and syndication today, and pricey. Most everything else is online now, including RBR and Radio Ink, both of which are more management and sales oriented, respectively.

For years Popular Communications had a monthly feature on the history of stations written by Alice Brannigan. When she left, it was dropped.
