Radio Maria expanding local volunteer base

Got the word from Mary Pyper, the national board president of Radio Maria USA (locally WHJM-FM Anna and WULM-AM Springfield) has just a small handful of helpers and is in need to expand its local volunteer base .....and is espcially in need of those who have an engineering and technical background to maintain its Botkins and Springfield transmitter sites...in addition to install its studio equipment at the Father Boyle Center(the former parish convent) at St. Bernard Parish in Springfield. A donation (or purchase) of pressure-treated lumber from a local lumber buisiness (Home Depot,Lowes,Menards,Brain Lumber,Conover Lumber or whoever)is needed so volunteers can construct an outdoor stairway entrance to the second floor of the Boyle Center so the studio equipment can be installed...hence the need for a volunteer engineer or techie.
Office helpers are needed for the Minster (and evetually Springfield) studio to keep up with local parish events that may be worthy of local air and to help Minster office/studio staffer Ernestine Miller(you may remember her from the old WERM at Moulton near Wapak) Even if you don't have an office or engineering background, just promoting RM at local parishes and nursing homes are appreciated.

Thanks in advance to fellow Catholics working in the broadcast field who feel called to help. Kim Faris stepped up to the plate and voiced the top of the hour group station ID for RM beginning last year. God gave those in this field a talent..so please help. Thanks again.

Limp:

Am a bit surprised nobody has responded to your post up to this point. Surely there are many Catholics out there working in secular broadcasting who can volunteer their experience and expertise to make Radio Maria sound better. When I listen online,it annoys me that sometimes the originating station in Louisiana fades out of a vocal song to seg into the top of the hour group legal ID or into another program...Very unprofessional.

RM also needs to use that same device (whatever its called) that K-Love uses at all of their transmitter sites so a lengthy top of the hour group ID won't be so neccessary.

EMF uses the Wegener iPump system... It's I suspect very pricy to install which is likely why a ministry such as RM hasn't installed such system at their stations. the iPump receives things like liners/lega ids via a low speed data channel on the satellite stream and loads them into the receivers Hard drive for airplay via the signals sent over the satellite.

Wouldn't just a simple contact closure do the same thing for a heck of a lot less? Just have the ID or liner on a hard drive, minidisk or something

I don't know what type of uplink they are using or system but if its one of the broadcast types (comstream etc..) they should have the ability to send a contact closure in the data channel of the uplink which could be decoded at the local stations and fire off a liner.. also in theory if they HARD Time their id at the toh they could easly program a clock or automation to at say 59:59:50 switch to local hd play id
00:00:00 return to satellite

there are multiple ways it can be done.

Thought I'd better come back and update you on some things. The WULM studio gear is now at the Boyle Center in Springfield awaiting installation...and the need for an outdoor stairway entrance still exists.

Would like to thank xmusicmatt for the input and the name of the I-pump hardware that is definately needed (in my opinion) as the RM station list increases.

On May 26 WRMW 91.3 FM Peshtigo/Sturgeon Bay,WI came on the air and WOLM 88.1 FM D'Iberville, MS (near Biloxi) made its debut the following day. WOLM started airing the sattelite feed a week ago after airing sample archived programming. WRMW is doing the same as it's awaiting delivery/installation of the dish. Another station in Belcourt, North Dakota (KSIH-FM) is in the works for sometime later this year or early next year. WSNR (620 AM )in Jersey City,NJ is airing some early morning programs on a limited basis geared towards the New York City market. WSNR otherwise airs brokered programming and is not owned by RM (at least not yet.) but this is in thanks (in part) to the New York volunteers who also program RM's Italian-language service via the WKTU subcarrier and audiostream.

The need still exists for volunteers (especially engineers) to help Radio Maria at its Springfield and Botkins transmitter sites. Please donate your time if you are an enginneer. Commercial/secular radio people who are Catholic are more than welcome to donate their experience and expertise, needed are operators at remote broadcast locations who can operate a Tieline unit without damaging it,also asking for local buisiness people or philanthropists who are Catholic to donate their dollars and I can go on. (the Quatman Family comes to mind here....if they know that RM exists, but I do not know if they do.)

A baby is making its all-important first steps...can you help nurture and this child and help it grow?
