Radio Marti broadcasting on FM

Does anyone know about Radio Marti broadcasting on 94.7 to Cuba? It seems that a frequency allocation request has been made for this frequency by a third party in Key West according to Glenn Hauser of the DXld group on yahoo for the addition of 94.7 to the Key West FM allocation table. If you want to check this out here is the web address for the FCC allocation request:

I think that is the frequency of the fixed wing airplane that loops along the Cuban coast. It is operated by a contractor, and has an FM antenna that swings down from the bottom of the plane.

Why would they need to inform the FCC other than as a courtesy?
The one on 1180 has nothing to do with the FCC.

Alex Media who is requesting the allocation (94.7 in Key West) also has a station in Islamorada pending.

Radio Marti is unrelated to the app in the FCC. Most likely, until Marti becomes a budget cut victim, the broadcasts on 94.7 would continue. Couldnt tell you how the range is but Id imagine its probably pretty good but fairly low powered since its aboard a plane.

Its likely if Marti is broadcasting by the time the CP signs on, it will have no effect on either but cause a lot of interference on water a few miles south of the keys.

Sorry, I was not clear. I meant that the application to amend the table of assignments (or whatever the filing was for) seems to conflict the operation of Marti.

I believe that the Marti operation, based on estimated coverage maps, is running about 3 to 5 kw into a unity gain antenna (so as to not overshoot the island). That kind of power at 15,000 to 20,000 feet would result in very good coverage as the horizon is pretty far out from that height.

I used to own an FM at about 13,000 feet AMSL and the sucker got out about 300 km to places that had line of sight with about 500 watts ERP.

I caught this 94.7 a couple of times now, shooting thru WMGE 94.9's eye-block. I am 22 miles NW of Miami.

NOTE: It only runs for 2.5 hours in the evening, 7 to 9:30 pm.

That's OK, Ike Eisenhower would have apologised for being uncular. Another reason for running low antenna gain would be that the plane is not always level, but they should be somewhat directional. I'll bet the La Paz FM's do well from four km up.

Taking back one thing I said....I do like Reach FM which is the HD2 of WMGE (which I called eye-block). I just wish there were another way of transmitting it, and reaching a wide area....
