Radio on Cable...a new take
Out in the rural areas of NE PA many cable companies put radio from multiple markets on cable. Blue Ridge Cable, which has Tunkhannock (and much of Wyoming Co), Dushore, New Albany, and part of the back mountain does a great job of retransmitting stations. They put many Scranton and Binghamton stations on the cable. Here's an interesting twist: Cozy 103.9 is put on at the Dushore head-end (sounds perfect there); its then fed via fibre over to other head ends including Tunkhannock. Thus a person with cable FM in Tunkhannock can hear what broadcasts over 1460AM in stereo with very good quality. Its on 90.1 in Tunkhannock. By the way, it doesn't interfere with WVIA-FM, they're on yet another frequency on the cable system. We use this feed as the primary STL for 1460 (with a direct off-air backup). Up in Bradford and Tioga counties most of the cable systems rebroadcast many multiple market stations (in Mansfield you get Williamsport, Elmira, Binghamton and some Scranton for example). There was a time when cable companies would allow some of the NYC FM's into the cable. Since the DMX pay for service has cropped up cable companies now want to get paid for this service in the valley.
