Radio One Acquires Cox Houston

A quick point of clarification, Lufkin-Nacogdoches hasn't been a Nielsen rated market since 2015 or 2016, I believe. It has been measured by Eastlan since then but that was more than a year ago.
Nielsen measured Lufkin from 1982-92, and again from 2006 through 2013, Eastlan surveyed it from 2014 through 2020. It's been unmeasured since.

Excellent, precise information. I was off a few years on both references.

That's why you are "Ratings Expert Chris Huff".

I wonder if KSBJ would be interested in 97.1. They could sell KEHH. Although it would be a lot of overlap with KSBJ and would make KHIH pointless outside of Beaumont

KTHT will almost certainly go for over 5 million and if I had to guess I would say it is probably closer to 6-8 million. However, it is completely dependent on number of interested buyers and how interested they are.

The price will put it out of reach for smaller operators and and even some larger entities previously mentioned who has not shown eagerness for larger acquisitions.

Had been thinking about possible Hope Media Group interest in the spin-offs. Another possibility is purchasing 92.1 for Vida Unida (better signal) and perhaps sell 91.7 to KHCB for their Spanish output. KEHH could go with Vida Unida, as could KHIH. KHCB could keep the 1400 signal and it’s 101.5 translator for southside fill-in coverage.

All idle speculation with other people’s money.💵💵💵💵💵

If Hope acquired 92.1, I wonder if it is possible that they could downgrade/move 91.7 in such a way to get 92.1 to Senior Road.

I don't have time to run some numbers right now, maybe later.

For some reason I wasn’t even thinking about Vida Unida. The move from 91.7 to 92.1 would lose a strong signal into The Woodlands, Conroe, and Liberty. I don’t know how many people would be listening there and if they’d be willing to lose them. But 92.1 would be a better overall signal

I wonder if they could or would want to move 91.7 to College Station and they wouldn’t need their 93.1 translator which doesn’t sound great. I think it gets KHVU over the air. They would have to change frequencies though with KHCB stations on 91.5 and 91.9.

Does it matter if a station on 92.1 is too close to 102.9?
Figured it was just channels around it that matter, e.g. 91.7.

You can also get interference +/- 10.6 mHz on FM. If you add 10.6 to 92.1, you get 102.7.

The spacing on 10.6 separation is shorter than for adjacent and second/third adjacent channels, but you can get interference if they're too close.

So which station will Radio One have to divest?

KROI 92.1?
KTHT 97.1?
KHPT 106.9?
KGLK 107.5?

Based on the radio coverage location, I know Radio-One will keep.

KKBQ 92.9
KBXX 97.9
KMJQ 102.1

I'm surprise COX selling to Radio One instead of Cumulus Media which they only have a lone station of 104.1 KRBE.

As it turns out, the pairing of 92.1 and 97.1 — a simulcast pair ages ago, now with upgrades to 92.1 — do give you pretty good coverage of the Houston Market.
"If" dual stations like FM 106.9 & 107.5 make economic sense, then the north signal of 97.1 and the south signal of 92.1 would be ideal.
