Radio One Applications to increase power on 107.5/107.9

Radio One has filed appllications with the FCC to increase power on 107.5 WJZZ to 50,000 watts. 107.5 would also move to a Verizone cell tower just east of Sandy Springs. Also applied for is 35,000 watts for WHTA 107.9 from the current location.
WJZZ is currently 21,500 watts, from 1050 Crown Pointe. WHTA is 27,000 watts.

Antenna height remains essentially the same. WJZZ will be a few feet lower - WHTA uses the same antenna currrently being used.
I'm not sure about the short-spacing....a waiver maybe?

Is there a link on the FCC page for Radio One's application?

I found a violation for not having EAS working at a FM station in Boston and the equipment was sent here to Atlanta and they wanted the fine reduced. That was hilarious!! :D

Roddy: I used to engineer that station when Moe Negrin owned it. When I was there it was just an AM tower out in the woods.
I think it was when Bruce Maduri bought it (1400) that the cell folks got involved. It probably produced some nice additional cash flow from the rent.....

Would the stations reduce their height? Would short spacing be an issue?

When the 107.9 signal was brought in to Atlanta from Macon (and AC WPEZ moved to 93.7), their transmitter caused every home (and a local school) within a mile radius of the site to have hip-hop music bleed into televisions, telephones, computers, children's talking toys, and anything with a speaker attached to it. Any upgrades are sure to rile up the residents in that area again.

It's unlikely that an increase in interference - particularly blanketing interference - would be a concern. The increase is small - on the order of a dB and a half - the equipment currently being used is somewhat less likely to cause problems than was the case, the really troublesome stuff like cheeeep telephones and Radio Shack TV preamps, has already been healed, and the idea of an urban appeal station in Fayette County is now old hat.

107.5 needs to increase power, they sound great now, and with more power they will be even better! I agree with Brent they sound better than anyone else, I listen to them everyday.

107.5 sounds great on the west side, but I notice to the east is where they start to die, especially once you get on the other side of Stone Mountain. I notice going up 75 they die out pretty quick once you get north of Canton. 107.9 is a weak rimshot in past Acworth, there is some LP god squad in Canton, and IIRC is there not a 3Kw oldies station in Chattanooga on that freq?

From the nebulous map at the FCC Website, WJZZ's proposed site looks like it's on Buford Highway or Peachtree Industrial.

Could one of you engineering types tell us? Thanks.

Looks like it's just east of Sandy Springs to me.

Tom, now that recnet.com (with maps you can zoom in on) has picked it up, I can see it's west of Buford Highway on a road named Mechanicsville Road. It's not too far south of Jimmy Carter Boulevard.
