Radio One Hot 107.9 Philly

tk and ginger!! ::)

Luca Brasi wouldn't really be a good morning show. A good night show for the fishes, maybe... :p

Doesn't matter who the host is. The station is targeting a group that uses the net and mp3s for music. They will never be a force in Philly.

They need to target a niche group. Maybe a format like the KDAY of the 80's and 90's with all old school and local hip-hop. Philly needs a black oriented station that is 100% local, and maybe in a few years, will have grown an audience that will be as loyal as WDAS's.

I haven't listened to WRNB in a while. when did they switch to hip-hop? maybe that's why they can't catch WDAS. WRNB was supposed to be lass rap and more R&B, last i heard.

They mainly play rb & old school. They not doing well since the move to 100.3
It doesn't matter to Radio One anyway since their urban ac outlets are more financially stable to them than their mainstream urban outlets.

While WRNB was on 107.9, it gravitated its format to a niche urban one focused on R&B that came out from 1990-present. That was at a time when the "hot"-leaning urban ac's in some places (i.e. WUHT Birmingham and WAMJ Atlanta) sprang up and gave adult audiences on the younger end music that came out in new jack swing and hip hop soul eras. It filled the void in Philly for a bit since WDAS was more of a traditional R&B and soul station but of course that didn't last too long.
