Radio One, owners of urban AC WDMK/Detroit, is suing former employee Mason, whose real name is Ernest Wooten, for breach of contract, according to the Detroit News.
Mason left Radio One July 29 and signed a "non-compete" agreement, saying he would not appear on any competing radio station or, solicit business from any Radio One advertisers until Jan. 29, 2007. The lawsuit alleges that Mason announced plans to nationally syndicate his own morning show that would be broadcast in Detroit and nearby Flint, Mich., stations, among others.
Mason is a veteran of Detroit radio having worked for Radio One from 2001, first as a morning man and later afternoon drive personality. Prior to joining Radio One, he worked for rival Clear Channel, as the longtime morning man at urban WJLB. He's also known as the voice of the Detroit Pistons
