Re: Radio One Philly GM Leaves

All Access says the cluster general manager is gone, whatever that means.

Chester Schofield Exits Radio One/Philly
RADIO ONE/PHILADELPHIA VP/GM CHESTER SCHOFIELD has exited the cluster, which includes Urban WPHI (100.3 THE BEAT), Urban AC WRNB and Black Gospel WPPZ. No replacement has been named.

I have learned Mike that most people on all of the radio boards just want rock and country music on 24 hours a day. Urban music is not there thing

what did radio one ever do to you people ????

They blew up 3 Caucasian formats, one full serviced, which left a South Jersey community without a powerhouse of information and replaced them with African American formats. I guess that is not called racism, only if it was the other way around, would the Jacksons and Sharptons of the world rant, yell and riot.

Since most popular music is derived from the Blues/Spiritual form, are you telling me there were Caucasoid European Classical Music stations on the commercial band I didn't know about?

Let's not confuse this with the Rock, (or other non urban formats) verses Urban thing.

They took off unique formats, WDRE & WPLY, and replaced them with formats already in place which gave us a redundacy of stations with the same formats. (although one could argue their one sided mission statement) Beasly is also at fault with 96.5. In my area 107.9 is unlistenable most of the time now anyway, it use to be a clear signal of WKRF. I believe Radio One is not at fault here, I think they purchased the station from another company who bought 107.7 and then moved it to Philly on 107.9 already. But...they still put on yet another format which was already in place.

DRE has been gone for years. And they sucked after they dropped the simucast. As someone who remembers Alt before '93, Y-100 was not a good version anyway. I have no interest in that format, which might as well be album rock. But the market will do what it can bear, and with the PPM, this will be demonstrated.

Radio One Ruin a very good R&B Station in my Hometown ( Boston WILD-AM 1090 )

WDRE
WENZ 107.9 the end cc spun it off to radio one i think

102.9 in dayton ohio was classic rock they tried to get howard stern in mornings and just thought it would be cheaper to flip it to urban
97.9 in dallas well it was AC as B97.9 then flipped to 97.9 the beat in oct of 2000 i beleave

Just facts

It's a pretty bass-ackwards business model, but I understand why they do it.

It is, at once, short-sighted and also incredibly mindful of the future of the medium.
