Radio One rumor

Just read Dana Hall's news letter, she said there's a rumor that Radio One is selling one of its southern markets to another African American broadcaster. Now I'm almost certain it's Dallas/Ft. Worth, but the only African American buyer I can think of is Perry Broadcasting out of Oklahoma. Thoughts?...

If it's Perry then it's over lol. We all know how Perry run their stations, and it not in a positive way.

What about Magic Johnson?

I thought they were making money in D/FW. I guess since they have Joyner, there presence in D/FW as far as local radio is concerned is a moot point.

Maybe Service Broadcasting is interested. Forgot about them.

I hope not, then they might do something to KKDA-AM, one of my favorite stations in the U.S.

But all Service Broadcasting stations cater to African Americans.

But Service is based in Dallas nowhere else. Im glad Perry didnt snatch them up. Their stations are horrible even the Urban AC's they have.

Yep its Charlotte. DFW, exhale... For now...

True, but your original post said a black owned broadcaster. I dont know the finances of Hyman Childs, but I have a feeling that it would be cost prohibitive of him buying those stations. Maybe one of them, but not both.

Is there a chance that Radio One gets completely out of owning local radio stations, or consolidating its base east of the Mississippi. With two of their morning syndicated shows based in Texas, would they sell their interests in Reach Media and the Yolanda Adams Morning show?

Well, they are doing very well in Houston and not so well in Dallas. I have to think 2 of those 3 Houston stations are among their most profitable.

Radio One owns Houston Urban radio. KMJQ is their money maker and they been in that market for a long time. All of Houston's Urban and Rhythmic stations have bit the dust so thats why they are doing good there. For Houston I dont see them selling the Beat but KSOC maybe.

Radio One would do everyone a favor and just stick with DC and Atlanta when it comes to ownership of radio stations. Their Houston cluster wins by default, so that isn't a true litmus of how well-programmed their stations in that market are.

I see Davis Broadcasting is once again purchasing weak signals again. Like WFXE, WQNC is a class A signal with little more than central area coverage. WFXE suppose to coverage the entire Columbus-Phenix City-Auburn-Opelika region, but was mostly static while driving through that area. They ought to invest in raising their tower heights for those stations because Charlotte isn't going to listen to static like Columbus and East Alabama does. CBS knows this and will play them on that front, big time...

URBan Radio Broadcasting .. black owned Marv Dyson
That's another
And what about Hedgewood?? Or is R1 not talking to him no more [lol]

KMJQ sounds fine to me but everyone has their musical taste. KBXX I dont listen to them at all but they dont have Ricky Smiley in the mornings which is a surprise.
