so, one has to ask....what does this do to the Cox/Radio One rumors with Z93 and the spin off off 95.7 to Sharonville?

Good question, maybe it could still happen with Main Line similar to what Entercom and Cumulus did with its stations in Cincinnati?

I wonder what this means as far as possible format or staff changes? Does anybody know anything about this radio group? When is the deal finalized?

I found this info on a Google search for Main Line Broadcasting....

"Main Line Broadcasting was formed to build a group of radio station clusters in mid-sized markets, primarily in the eastern U.S. The company has made two acquisitions to date, and currently operates station clusters in Richmond, Virginia, Hagerstown, Maryland and Waynesboro/Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. These two acquisitions have resulted from the industry relationships of both CEO Dan Savadove and Arlington Capital.

The company is actively pursuing the acquisition of radio station clusters in attractive growth markets. Main Line targets acquisitions primarily in market sizes 50-150. The company currently operates nine radio stations in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Main Line Broadcasting is led by CEO Dan Savadove, a highly successful 25 year radio executive. Savadove served formerly as CEO of Root Communications, and was previously an executive with Chancellor Media, Patterson Broadcasting, Marlite Communications, and Infinity Broadcasting."

Prediction:
101.7 spun off to some small group
102.9 stays urban
Z93 becomes Z92 at 92.1
and... 92.9 becomes a yes... country competitor to k99! Thoughts?

Anyone who wastes time competing directly with K-99 in the Dayton market is wasting money in the long-run.

It's been done before. And where are they?

Is the 101.7 to 101.5 move still happening???

Really they'd be dumb to mess with the market. Radio One left this cluster in great shape. Z93 does well in their demographic and brings in $, why would you change that? Same with Hot, ROU, They are all bringing in mad cash.

I don't really see them messing with Z too much, only if they want to become more competitive with MIX, which they really should. I am sure that Channel is something they more or less laugh at. There's a lot of money they are missing right now and MIX's advertising rates are sky high, and sad to say it, MIX has gotten pretty weak in the past couple of months. Sure, TimeWarp Prom sold out, but the big benefit they had is that it was on Wright State University's campus, and the theme was Saturday night fever, as well as there was a lot of booze to buy. If they could take more of the pie from MIX competitors would be more apt to spend those dollars with Z, because Z's sales rates are far lower.

But MIX's number have been a little shakey since Rantz left. Rantz had been doing a relatively dynamic job of programming the music for the station when they pulled the plug, and it went in the opposite direction of being edgy, yet family friendly......... at least musically. The morning show will always be bleh.

If Mallory and Campy could step it up a notch (or dare I say, remove one of them) and let Paula have more of a voice, they could really change directions. Paula is at an age where she could related to MIX's target demo FAR better then Kristi Leigh can. Kristi Leigh is getting to the point where she is outdated for MIX, and is ready to move on to more of a LITE 99.9 demo.

I know somebody who currently works for Mainline. From what he tells me (as in, they're very tight with the $$), I wouldn't figure on Mainline spending any money above and beyond what they just spent to acquire. So I would say, forget them trying to take ANY station against K99, which would require sinking some money into the effort.

I'm sure their company is still in the red from all their acquisitions, so it wouldn't surprise me to have them not put too much money into things.

Well, let's be realistic, why would they mess with Hot? That station dominates their demo in the ratings. It isn't broke, don't fix it.

But their other stations, I wouldn't put my money on a horse if I didn't think it could win. They may still be in the red because of the acquisition, but that doesn't mean they won't shake things up with their other stations. Right now is the time to sit back and evaluated the market, then make changes. So things may stay the same for now, but don't be surprised if there is a major shake up one Mainline has a game plan in place.

What is up with Rantz these days? He was a great talent. Sad to see him gone from 'MMX after the cuts. :'(
MIX is a fun station. Their music direction has been shaky as of late, though.
Could Z be a direct competitor to 'MMX? They should be. They have a HUGE signal, arguably one of the best in the market. Sounds like things could get interesting...
What will happen with the other stations is anyone's guess...HOT is a 12+ winner...WKSW is hugely popular in Urbana-Springfield(If that station went away their would be thousands of angry hillbillies LOL...'ROU is heritage(What Radio One left of Ronita Saunders' baby). All of these stations, with the exception of HOT, have 15 or more years on the air in their respective formats. Messing with any of those frequencies would amount to lunacy. HOT does bill well, yes, but until the infamous 2001 firings at 717 E. David Rd., 102.9 was always a rock station...They could once again be a great competitor for either WTUE or WXEG, if they would want to go that route.

One of the FMs will undoubteldly go to Cox, probably as the WHIO simulcast to replace 95.7. 102.9 would give very similar coverage to the current 95.7. Once 101.7 becomes 101.5 and a Dayton signal, that still leaves several opportunites. If they keep Z it probably stays CHR or Hot A/C, I think they could really be a viable competitor to Mix. I don't see a third country station in the market, The Rebel is finally holding its own in the Dayton market but it would take multi millions of dollars to put a dent into K99.1, and no doubt if K99.1 had serious comeptition thrown at it, Cox would kick in the cash to protect it.

Here's what I think should be done:

92.1: Stay Urban AC.. it's kicking butt! It beat Hot in the last book. Tom Joyner has things locked down over there.
92.9: Get rid of Frye Guy first of all. Switch it to the Q102 format, 90's And Now and have it compete against Mix.
101.7: Heh. Screw 'em. Do something with it. You know, you could put country on 92.1 and move Urban AC over to 101.7 and call it Magic 101.
102.9: Leave it alone but make it hot like 101.1 The Wiz in Cinci. None of the watered down crap.

Who am I forgetting? I don't think 1410 counts do they?

I haven't talked to Rantz since February, but last I heard, he is doing well. He is working for an agency that puts on pagents, talent shows etc as a host and sound mixer. It's not radio, but I think he is done with the industry for now, which is sad. He was and still is an amazing on air talent, truth be told, he was FAR too talented for Dayton. Clearly, Clear Channel doesn't value talented individuals, as can be seen with the cutting of Paul Ellis and Allen.

It still makes me angry to this day. Paul Ellis and Rantz were just two of the 4 dynamic people they let go. Paul Ellis is a living doll. Allen Rantz was just a musical genius.
