It looks like WBOT and its "Hot 97.7" moniker is out as R1 moves the WILD calls and it Adult R&B format to the 97.7 FM frequency, while WILD's former AM daytime home at 1090 flips to Black Gospel as Praise 1090.

However, the FM will still play today's R&B/Hip-Hop product, but only during evening hours.

In layman's terms, 97.7 is now an Urban Contemporary. Well, that's a first in like never for Radio One.

Well, their slogan is "The Urban Specialists".

Too bad they just 'specialized' in giving Rhythmic Top 40 rival WJMN(JAMN' 94.5) a great reason to pick up listeners come the next Arbitron book.

Radio One was indeed correct to switch things around in Boston. You will see that "hip-hop culture", and the "hip-hop lifestyle" is almost dead. No more thugs, gangs and shootings glorified. And NBA Commissioner David Stern put the nail in the coffin a few days ago:

Boston radio is horrible anyway. This just hurts the city more when it comes to Hip Hop and R&B.

One will wonder what station Radio One will buy in the next year or so to complete their cluster of three.

What direction would they take #3? Hip-hop would be the generic answer, but wouldn't R1 be wise to put Smooth Jazz on?

But who will sell their stations? Clear Channel, Entercom, Greater Media and Infinity are in the buying business, and WFNX and WCRB's owners have a 'off-limits' sign on theirs.

Who knows. I hear that Citadel is in the selling business these days, what about taking 104.5 as a rimshot? Any chance it could be moved in a little? Looking at the Radio-Locator map, if the signal could be improved to the southeast without impacting the 104.7B on Cape Cod, it would actually make a signal that's not too bad for a Smooth Jazz station.

(However, this potential signal would probably be more suited for SBS or Univision, as it would have a lousy signal in Roxbury, Dorchester, etc.)

92.5 could probably fetch Northeast Broadcasting a good amount of money as well, but I'd doubt that they would sell.

Second-adjacent to WBCN Boston, I doubt it could be moved any closer to the city. The Radio-Locator map is only a representation of their signal without interference. WXLO comes in well in the suburbs, but WBCN splashes all over it in the city, and I don't think they could do anything that would overcome that.

And just what the hell does this have to do with the price of tea in Boston?
______________
