Radio One to Announce SOMETHING on Monday

Radio One/Atlanta has notified clients that they will be announcing *something* on Monday. The release hints it will affect both Majic and Boom.

My guess? They will move boom from 102.9 to 97.5 and the Majic simulcast from 97.5 to 102.9. They are relocating the Boom antenna to Fayette County.

The only reason for the current 107.5/97.5 simulcast is that 107.5 disappears for several miles on I-85 in the vicinity of the 107.9 transmitter site. Why waste a full station (97.5) to cover those several miles when a translator could work perfectly fine?

I could be wrong, however, about what the announcement will be. We'll find out on Monday.

My guesses, steered by what I'm hearing, align with Roddy's guesses. Majic was in a tough place at the beginning of last year, but they are digging themselves out and sounding better than ever. Not to mention, SiMan and Chubb Rock sound a whole lot better than Art & Roy down the dial. Boom also sounds really good, and would have a chance to really pull ahead of OG979 with this move. None of this should be surprising...Radio One is distinctively good at what they do. Smart move overall.
