Radio One Websites

I think the new Radio One websites are a definite upgrade, the streams sound great too but it takes a good internet connection and plenty of bandwidth to get the full effect.

I noticed the new theme when news of their "My 92.7" in Charlotte first broke. They've essentially got their station sites tied into RadioOne's online properties (the 'BlackPlanet Universe' including BlackPlanet, NewsOne, and Giant Mag). For a company that once openly questioned the need for radio station websites, its pretty significant to have them synched with a popular social network. I'm sure they'll have the TV One site connected in the same way soon.

I don't like them! The older ones were better and more edgy! These ones are just awful and basic. The new websites come with new addresses linking the city to station name (ex hotspotatl.com; majicatl.com). By the way, Blackplanet fell off years ago when Myspace was born. Radio One stations here never advertise having a Blackplanet page. Every jock and the stations itself has a Myspace, Facebook and of course Twitter.

Yeah, they're garbage now compared to the old format. Even CC learned that the 'social networking' crap on a radio station website is stupid when they dumped the original format for their sites for the current one where the jocks just post YouTube videos and blog entries with links to their Facebook/Twitter. Radio NoOne has always been a joke when it comes to the internet and until ol' Cathy Hughes and Alfred Liggins gets that though her thick head it will continue to be.

Well, it is true that they all look exactly alike but I think the appearance is pretty good. There seems to be an effort to put local content on each one. The streams are pretty high quality too.

I'm a longtime BlackPlanet user, and BP is worlds better than the spam site it used to be. It's much more stable and your personal pages are customizable enough--so that unlike MySpace, your pages will actually load. True, BP doesn't have near the user base that Facebook does. But the site is still popular enough to super-serve its specified niche, a population already heavily attracted to Radio One stations.

I like the new websites--they look classier and they load better.

I'm not sure what I think, seems kinda tacky to me, yet a new approach and fresh ideas at the same time, I'm not sure.
