Radio-One

With all the talk on here about WLRS, I think Radio-one needs an FM gospel station. Put it on 104.3. Would it work? I think so, WLOU does ok, so I think an FM would sell. Any opinions?

I am sure a Gospel FM would reach more people than WLOU does now with the format. WLOU tends to stop the music quite a bit especially in the early afternoons, early evenings and weekends. Plus, they focus mostly on quartets and choirs and less on the more popular contemporary Gospel style. Also, WMJM-FM 101.3 has several Gospel music songs in rotation on their regular playlist from artists like Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Yolonda Adams and Charles Woolfork & the Covenant Singers. So, the music is growing rapidly. The Gospel FM is doing well in the south and apparently it is doing well in Columbus, Ohio; Richmond, Virginia; and Philadelphia, PA.

There seems to be a growing success in the Christian music genre in Louisville. WJIE-FM 88.5 has been doing well with Adult Contemporary Christian Music for over 15 years, not to mention the increase of Adult CCM music crossing over to secular counterparts like WVEZ-FM 106.9 and WXMA-FM 102.3. WFIA-FM 94.7 has experiencing an increase demand for Southern Gospel music and is airing it on weeknights and weekends. EMF is striving to become more of an entity in the Louisville market with their Christian Hot AC format on Air 1 at 88.9 FM in New Albany and 104.7 FM in Louisville. I am sure there is an audience for a Gospel FM, especially since WLOU-AM 1350 has done well with the music on a low signal AM station.

Man you really know your stuff. That is awesome. I know WRVI 105.9 is a CCM station, who is neck and neck with WJIE, and RVI has only been in the market for about 5 years. As far as Air 1, I can't pick it up in my car, so I don't know who is paying for them to be on in Louisville. What is EMF?

Radio One would not put a Gospel station on 104.3 as it would eat away at Magic WMJM. Magic is pulling huge numbers with a limited signal that reaches all target areas for the format locally. There is really no other money making format to flip to. Apparently WLRS is up quite significantly sales wise so there is no reason to blow it up.

EMF is the owner of Air 1 and K-Love Christian music networks. EMF stands for Educational Media Foundation.

K-Love has a presence in the market too at 91.5 around downtown Louisville and in some parts of Southern Indiana.

If Louisville gets an FM Urban Gospel station, I'd think it'd probably be "Hallelujah 93.1". The format would also be a good candidate for an HD2 signal.

93.1 the fox ain't going anywhere i guarantee that! The fox could crush the old decrepit gray haired old walrus if they choose to do so but they don't at the moment.Clear channel has a lot more money than radio one.But variety hits is the flavor of the moment not rock so time will tell.Sorry no hallelujah
93.1

Why do you bother posting here? Surely there are plenty of radio "fan" sites for you to loiter on.
