Radio One's 107.5 WJZZ To Flip Formats

Wonder if they are planning on a name change? I remember 102.5 going through a couple of names. CLASSIC SOUL 102.5, 102.5 WR&B and finally its current name 102.5 GROWN FOLKS RADIO. Since the Urban AC format will have a stronger signal, does anyone know when Tom Joyner's contract expires on KISS 104.1? Syndication One syndicates his show and Radio One has some ownership in there. Couple of years ago, Radio One pulled Joyner off of competing stations and placed him on just about every Radio One owned Urban AC. They've done the same thing with The Mo'Nique Show placing her in afternoon drive on Radio One Urban AC stations. Hopefully, they keep Steve Harvey and Michael Baisden. Those are the only 2 syndicated shows I think are worth keeping.

From what I've heard, Radio One plans to keep the station intact, including Ballentine and Sharpton. So it won't be an urban AC station; it will be primarily talk with urban AC at night and on weekends. Not that I agree with that...

Cox has right of first refusal on Joyner. Tony Kidd once told me that Radio One would not try to take Joyner away from Kiss. Radio One knows that if Joyner were pulled from Kiss, Cox would react by taking Joyner off in a number of other markets.

Yea, i kinda figured they weren't going to get rid of Sharpton and Ballentine since they are syndicated by Radio One. Great on air talents on 102.5, but they are only on air on the weekends except for SiMan. Magic Man, Carol Blackman, Derek Harper and DJ Red Alert are all over there.

Is there really a need for the simulcast to be long term? 102.5 does have a what appears to be about 5 miles or so more coverage toward Peachtree City. Is that enough to keep the second signal?

Also, when will 107.5 finish be on the air with the new construction permit?

praise 97.5 is moving to 102.5

and 102.5 will share with 107.5

Close. After Praise moves, 97.5 will simulcast with 107.5.

??? O'kay..what is going on? Roddy, I thought the move was just moving GROWN FOLKS RADIO 102.5 to the 107.5 spot.

What happened. No changes yet. I guess Radio One is messing with us or they can't make this move work.

You know what, I almost posted something that was true, but now it's not worth knowing, so never mind. In other words, please disregard this erroneous post. Thank you.

Well, the Dave Koz Radio show is not on the air tonight. Another official step further to Smooth Jazz doom in Atlanta.

But at least there are some great Smooth Jazz stations on Internet Radio website, Live365.com. There is even a Smooth Jazz station that is run out of Atlanta and they play all the great catchy tunes.
