Radio online streaming

Why do some stations play those irritating 10 minutes of advertizing, and others play music during the local commercials? Do Radio stations have a choice to be commercial free online? Wmxj plays Bobby Ocean and Beatles music during the commercial breaks. a lot of I heart radio is commercial free. that is the only good thing about that company. I would gladly pay to hear regular radio on the internet commercial free. As long as it is not silence for 10- 15 minutes.

Terrestrial station have market limitations in regards to advertising and just about every other aspect of station....

Long Story Short they don't run Ad's on streams that could infringe on somebody in another market.... Usually if you hear ads online from a terrestrial station they are going to be 100% local business, no regional or national advertisers.....

It actually has more to do with the vocal-talent.. AFTRA says if you air their talent commercials online that you MUST pay $$$ talent fees.. So instead of doing that you hear other content in place of the ads instead. The stations that let ads air online are either using local non AFTRA talent or they are airing the ads w/out paying the additional fees.

xmusicmatt is right. The union talent said that the stream is a separate, unique broadcast, so they want to be paid in full for that "broadcast".

Greed.

Not Greed, It is only fair for the talent to get paid for their work.

No, it's greed. If the station was simulcasted on 2 FM stations would they expect to get paid twice? The talent didn't do any extra work for that to be carried in 2 places.

Pretending the speakers on my phone are different from the speakers on my FM radio is the same nonsense companies like Hulu are trying to get away with with restrictive licensing.

Thank you, dkocw, for making my point.

Could you put your favorite internet streaming companies in order of how much you like them? with the most variety of music allowed for pay services like slacker and pandora and others.
