I'll start this off with :

Kirby Carmichael
Sam Church
Mark Thomas
Lou Dean playing music
Shotgun John
Philly Phil playing R&B on Magic 99

In the Winchester, Virginia market...

Mike Bell ( WHPL ) sadly now deceased but I would love to hear more of the old airchecks
Frank Innings ( WINC )
Pflash Phelps ( WKMZ )

and anything, anything from WFQX-FM during their "Froggy 99" days ( 1994 & 1995 ). Not that I "miss" this station but out of history an aircheck would be interesting to hear. Afterall Froggy 99 was a target of a picket by the infamous Westboro Baptist Church/Fred Phelps even before Matthew Shepherd and to date as far as I know they are the ONLY station in America that can make that claim. Just that it would be interesting to hear an aircheck from this station when they were Froggy since NOBODY in the market is willing to even discuss anything about WFQX when they were known as "....The Most Music and the Best Mix..Froggy 99".

I do believe that the same Shotgun John that you mentioned is on Generations 102.3 in Charlottesville on Sundays from 3-7. Not sure of other shifts that he works because I'm normally working on the weekends. I just spoke with him over the phone last weekend. Hope this helps....

Jay in Lynchburg

Chris Bailey WNVZ
DB Cooper WNVZ & WGH
David Lee Michaels WRVQ

And from Z104 Frederick MD: Grizzly Adams, Brother Bear.

A tad off topic, I guess, but does Bill Drake still work in the Richmond market? I remember listening to him when I was a kid, on WDCK The Duck 96.5 (a very good oldies channel.)

Yeah, he's still around. Does middays (I think) on WKHK.

Harvey Hudson and Lud Sterling on WLEE-AM
Kirby Carmicheal on WANT-AM
Gene Loving on WGH-AM
Cousin Brucie on WABC-AM (I know, out of state, but very popular in richmond in the 60s.)
I'll second the poster who said anyone on K92 in the 80s. What a great station: they really shook those mountains!

John Garry... and virtually everyone else, that worked at WGH.

This thread could easily become "Stations you wish could come back as they were"...

About “WGH in ‘Ole Virginia”…lots of neat stuff at http://www.alohanews.com/wgh.htm

Some specifics about jocks: George Crawford and Bob Calvert both deceased as is Ambert Dail, the often heard GM; Gene Loving is CEO, Max Media, Norfolk, VA; Dick Lamb does mornings at “92.9 The Wave”, Virginia Beach, VA; Jim Lawrence is retired as a TV weatherman; Dale Parsons is a Broadcast/Marketing Consultant, Hawaiian Islands; and the guy you asked about, John Garry retired on December 1, 1997 from WTAE, Pittsburgh.

BTW, WGH-AM has to go down as one of America’s ~GREAT~ radio stations in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

How long did WNOR 1230 compete with WGH and how did they actually do on that frequency?

John Garry is and Bob Calvert was a great friend. As was the late Roger Clark.
