Radio Personalities

I'm just trying to get a clue as to where everyone in New Orleans radio is. I hear some of the full-time personalities in pre-recorded promos on a few stations in New Orleans. What happened to the part-timers we know like Michael Allan, Tommy, Dave Potter, Jason Read, Ganji, etc.? What about full-timers like Tommy Tucker, Blair, CJ McKay, etc.? The Entercom stations have seemed to let most of their workers "drop off the face of the planet." I understand many of the CC full and part-timers are in Baton Rouge.

Just curious.

From how I see it from inside the radio Ivory Tower:

Michael Allen will stay at his low wage and versatility. Tommy Tucker is a goner and will be selling cars again in the days ahead. Blair was let go first a couple of days before the storm. Bob Mitchell will lose his $83,000 salary too...what a colossal waste of money anyway on a no-talent corporate asslicker. CJ will stay because of...who he is. Vince Marinello will stay because he's the most versatile and valuable of the lot.

Don't cry...it's just a cleansing of the worthless and overpaid...

Who needs a clue! Entercom's obvious concern is the cash-cow, WWL-AM. Have you seen many of their emails begging for business. They are keeping a skeleton crew at best. Haven't heard if any of the Magic staff has been retained. Pre-Katrina, Entercom had a post to fill the KOOL mid-day shift and web master postion on All Access. So, it's best said Blair was let go. Post-Katrina, I read somewhere CJ McKay mad his way up to the northeast and has settled into the Philadelphia market. On Bayou, both Heather and Binder have hit the road on their own and landed jobs.

Walton and Johnson are the only true entertainers in this group and ones with ratings. All the stations are up and running but only KOOL is still airing United Broadcasters. Coincidence? So why retain Bob Mitchell or Tommy Tucker? Mitchell hasn't been heard on the air since the storm, lucky us. Tucker, on once or twice, doing his best "Letterman" imitation. His lame attempt at humor, real lucky us. Now, he can go bore the people at Boomtown. Vince is the only one worth having on WWL and when on, never makes mention he's from KOOL 95. Strange?

Makes one wonder if it's cost-cutting measure. Wait until Benson breaks down the tent and pitches it back up on the San Antonio River. My, how one storm has changed the landscape of Entercom. Management's feet should be sweating at this point. The machete will be swinging soon. Hope you enjoyed your stay! Who you gonna BS next about your success in New Orleans?

The reason I was asking is 'cause I saw on some personal blogs, Entercom let go quite a few people, part and full-time. Sometimes I wonder. What are they thinking? They know people are going back to the city for their jobs. Why let them go in this desperate time of need? Jobs are plentiful maybe, but like Nagin said, they won't be able to bring people back to the city and keep them with the threat of being fired looming or chicken-feed, minimum wage pay. Nobody's a stupid chump. They're gonna go elsewhere.

Well obviously, Entercom's concern must be the cash,... period! Can you say "Cha-Ching?!" What about CC?!... them too! "Cha-Ching!" Damn I'm glad I quit radio many years ago. I'm happy they're doing what they're doing for the city with combined efforts, but that's old news.

I would hate to see one of the last heritage stations like B-97 go. EZ Communications had their chance to screw it up making it a Hot Talker and Entercom has done the same with this current PD. I finally did a little research on this fella... and I see he flip-flopped it twice under his wing... Main CHR to Rhythm CHR back to Main CHR. He let go airstaff not EVEN five months old when he flipped it back!! The station needs to stay, but the PD and the rest of the GD staff at that station need to get canned! What a bunch of wasted, overpaid, no-talent pinheads. I'd like to hear B-97 with a bright, knowledgeable PD, maybe some energetic jingles FINALLY, and talented LOCAL airstaff. I guess I'm living in Dreamland, huh?

As far as KOOL goes, the music was already getting so stale! The same 5 songs was a waste... like trying to squeeze an already-juiced orange. Hell, there's only so much you can get out of it! There are at least over a thousand songs that could be played on that station. The new jingles they had was a breath of fresh air, but still not enough to make a difference. I don't wanna see some of that airstaff gone, but Entercom already did their deed of "stirring the pot." Change is in the air... I can smell it. Sniff, sniff....

Guys,
I know that most of you won't let the facts get in the way of a good rant and various personal and professional attacks, but Entercom has fired NO ONE, even some they should have, and CC has only fired one DJ who made some stupid statements on the air. Both companies have made the decision to stay pat... maybe only for now, but there have been no layoffs and only 1 firing. While I too am concerned over the corporate giants that radio has become, in this case, their sheer size and bulk have allowed both companies to give employee's from New Orleans a small stipend (I think Entercoms was $1000 for full timers) and both companies have each raised over $500,000 for the employee's who were hit hard by Katrina.

On Bayou, both Heather and Binder
> have hit the road on their own and landed jobs.

We all know Heather went to Memphis, but Binder was on live today on Bayou 95.7 during afternoon drive..Or at least sure fooled me taking calls and saying how he was glad to be back etc. etc

Yeah, the facts are all over US 61, while a good number of these well thought of employees, are driving to and from Baton Rouge daily. It's unfortunate that a good many have to drive two hours, at a minimum, just to stay employed and to pocket a check. Nice to hear NO ONE was fired. But when you make a statement "their sheer size and bulk have allowed both companies to give employee's from New Orleans a small stipend (I think Entercoms was $1000 for full timers) and both companies have each raised over $500,000 for the employee's who were hit hard by Katrina", you forgot include the part-timers. They didn't receive that amount. Do your homework before you start spitting out corporate BS! Mr. Entercom took care of the full timers and threw some crumbs to everyone else. Check your facts. I'm sure they were grateful for the greenbacks, but if they're going to help THEIR folks, help 'em ALL the same way. Not as second class citizens. Just hope those who don't need the money aren't sticking their grubby little hands into the pot and sponging off those who were left with nothing.

Actually, the part timers received $500 each... even the ones that had started the week before, and the fund is their for them to request. additionally, even the part timers still have jobs, if they wanted them.
You may want to do YOUR homework. and the reason I mentioned the "size and bulk" is not because I am fond of consolodation, but is merely a reference to the fact that, for better or worse, the smaller companies do not have the resourses to help employee's like the big companies. They just don't have the $$$.

Maybe Im getting the wrong information but the three (3) FULL TIMERS i know at entercom were all told they have gotten there last checks, but i agree about the big comps having more resources to help there people

You are right. There were a few people let go from Entercom, part and full-timers. I know because I spoke with an insider, live in person. It's unfortunate, but true.

Sawtooth

As a point of fact, no one was let go at Entercom... At least not yet. A few have been "idled," that is to say that they are not "actively working," but they are still getting paid.
Entercom is still scattered between NO and BR, so there is not the room they used to have on Poydras.
