For the last 20 years, I have owned legal licensed radio stations. But , once upon a time, I was a radio pirate. My pirate
radio station (Jolly Roger Radio) was on AM, FM, and short wave all at once. The FCC from Chicago shut me down on my
birthday. The bust made national news.
In those days, the fCC just wanted to get one in to compliance. The engineer in charge of the Chicago field office let me
know that Washington wanted to see me get a license for a small Indiana town. He joked they want to see you so busy
in day to day operations that you will shut your big mouth.
There was a secret pirate organization formed at the time and the FCC showed me a secret. They were members.
A man who would call pirate stations as a big fan also was calling the FCC tipping them off about pirates. The FCC
was then busting pirates within minutes of them firing up.
So, be warned.
