Radio & Politics

One of radio's attributes is its ability to target specific audiences. One of politics' attributes is to say and do what you think it will take to win, and not necessarily what's best.

Yesterday on Kiss 104.1, a station targeted to African-Americans, I heard a commercial urging people to support President Obama by voting for Democrats. It was paid for by the Barnes 2010 committee.

Today on Star 94, a station targeted to a general market audience, I heard a Barnes commercial with the candidate saying that Deal is trying to tie him to President Obama; and that Barnes has nothing to do with Obama. He continues, "Why vote against Washington? Vote for Georgia."

And this does not mean I'm for or against Barnes. Virtually all politicians are guilty of, well, being political.

And people wonder why radio makes so much money on political advertising.

The only reason why some stations will be in the black this year is because of the mid term election. Without it, radio would have had another down year. And unless something happens with the economy next year, stations will be back to red ink.

Meanwhile, John McCain wants a law that would make all political advertising free.

Watch out for RINOs; a true Conservative would never stand in the way of capitalism...as for next year's red ink, PLAN FOR IT, and look forward to the following year when things will be in the black again.
