Radio Promotions and ski resorts

Is any radio station doing promo's at ski resorts anymore?
I rememer all the boston stations used to love going to Okemo as well as a couple NYC ones. however, this year every station Major markets as well as Northern new england seem to be Non existant. any Idea has caused this sudden death in a period of 2-3 years?
at Okemo you will still find 99.3 Cranking in the Snowboard park & my walkman however.. otherwise elsewhere around okemo it seems all satellite & Mp3 players
any great memories of Ski resort promos from the past?
is there any radio station left going to ski resorts this winter?
( k-rock in NYC is only promoting ones in NYC are which is a shame :-\ their all in the other direction of NJ/PA area away from me in CT )

Yes...the good 'ol days...I seem to remember one station in the area that fancied the name "The Official Ski and Ride Station"...but now you rarely even hear commercials for the ski resorts that surround it. Remember back in the day...when another station used to have live ski reports from the "Mountain"...with the ski reporter on his cell phone chatting with the morning crew right from the slopes...It seems the relationships between the local radio stations and ski resorts have fallen flat. Could it be that most of the stations, especially in the Rutland area ONLY cater to the Rutland area? The once regional focus is now just local...I'll bet the resorts have figured that out...

Excuse me while I listen to another commercial on how to make money on the internet... ;)

Jan-Mar is when you see the bulk of your Radio/Mtn promo. A lot of mountains are not using radio, choosing to go with internet based promo/advertising instead. Radio events are generally added value to the buy. There's simply no reason for Kililngton for instance, to do any advertising in the Rutland mkt. Do the residents not know there is a huge ski resort over-looking them? A token buy at best just to keep the local radio folks happy is all you might see.

Killington's attititude falls along the lines of "you should pay us for the privilege of being here and using our brand. We're Killington."

Still, better than the ski areas who shall remain nameless with a nasty habit of bouncing checks (there's more than one of them).

I'll put my ' go radio' hat on and say that radio is relatively the 'closest' and 'last ' medium to most if not all the major ski areas in Vermont. Overall local radio could be very strong marketing tool for the resorts to take advantage of.

While you make a valid point, "Valhallafred", Your statement is not all black and white, and there is value to Killington advertising on the 3 radio stations that have their antennas on atop those peaks there, and a select group of other stations that fit the need. Budgets are tight at ski areas, and the monies available have to be invested across a spectrum of media and major feeder cities. The past few winters were not very good.

At one time, Z 97, WEBK, Q106 (pre-Nassau), WEQX, WNCS, and to a lesser extent WJJR used to have their prayers and 1st quarter sales projections answered in a huge way with lots of 'white gold' activity..

In Portland, several stations are running ski promos/packages. But then again, since it's raining in Portland and snowing in Bethel this morning, it's worth it to remind listeners about the mountains.

We still do! I will be at Gunstock on the 26th of this month with OLDIES 103.3 hosting the Apres Ski party. We'll be doing Canon Feb 9th and Smugglers on Feb 30th.
Any one know where a can find those Walla Balls?

That's awesome ! Used to totally enjoy seeing and meeting the 'big boys' from the Boston and NYC radio stations doing it up in Ski Country.. Met some very good people, and learned a few things.. :)!

Last I knew the only two Ski area promotions I've heard about were Corm and the Coach and their annual broadcast from Smugglers Notch (Mid December?), then 'Ski and Ride with the Point' and their half price skiing/riding and après ski parties every Friday at a different resort.
