Radio ratings fall for Limbaugh, Hannity.

I think 'politically oriented radio' (call it poor) has lost its luster. It's the same old drivel and talking points, most of which don't matter to the normal person. We have turned this medium into a polical squawk box. POOR RADIO. Where are the personalities? My preference would be to hear a real compassionate human being like Sally Jesse Rafael or Rolleye James, to name two, instead of the constant bickering about politics by radio morons armed with GOP talking points. Call them GRUMPY OLD PEOPLE. We are craving for entertainment... not a bunch of preaching.

So... Mr. Holland-Cooke... What are you going to do to change this? YOU are the BIGTIME Consultant! Aren't you?

Ya THINK?
As diary/PPM transitions are demonstrating, that luster was over-estimated.

AMEN.
It's not just that different-ratings-methodology-produces-different-numbers.
The act itself is beat. Predictable.
You already know what Limbaugh's show will be about.
And he's not the only one.
"Grumpy" is kind.
But sounding so-closed-minded does make radio righties sound old.
Which, after all, they are now.
In-a-world-where advertisers want 25-54, Limbaugh's 60.
It happens.

Shhh!
Good consultants lurk.

But seriously: 'Just wrote a promo for a contest we're doing at one of the FM talkers we recently lit-up. Win-a-weekend-in-the-big-city when the "American Idol LIVE" tour is there.

As station promos often assure, "not just politics;" and "YOU get to talk too, with people from right here."

I used to listen to talk radio all day. Rush, Hannity, etc..(though I never listened to cartoons like Savage or Levin).

I stopped a few months ago. I feel better, I'm more informed, and I can listen to all kinds of great podcasts from BBC or The Economist or any of a variety of science and history shows.

I realized that talk radio (left and right) is the same: The host makes a personal bond "I'm just like you (except for my jet and my cigars and my driver....), they make you mad, make you mad about things you never were mad about before, and had no reason to be mad about, then they promise you more.

Feh...

I don't miss it, I am a happier and more informed person now. Talk radio is WWF Wrestling, its fake, the hosts are showmen, not experts, and its all about getting you emotionally involved and mad. Its no wonder people are turning off the radio....its crap.

Is no one taking into account the natural ratings depression that would take place after the 2010 midterms? There's no way in the world that such an audience like that could be sustained in the long run. That would be impossible.

Beck has to be hurting after losing Philly AND New York, and Hannity is without a Philly affiliate too. That immediately translates into lower ratings for the both of them right off the bat.

WTAM in Cleveland has apparently experience significant ratings increases especially in the past month, but that can be attributed to the red-hot start by the Cleveland Indians that anything else (WTAM serves as the flagship for Indians, Cavaliers and Browns PBP). I wouldn't know the immediate 9am-3pm rankings, which is when they put Beck and Rush on back-to-back...

I have read some of the comments about the two leading radio talk show hosts, and after what Ed Schultz said recently, it seems like there is no end to the constant attacks back and forth, when will we all come to the realization that we are humans first?, i'm tired of members of the
media who's business these days is to find something they can hurt a person with, this has got to stop!, and i can understand why ratings are down for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and others, i wonder how much longer this will last before listeners tune out talk radio?

The original report was about their ratings on WABC in NYC , so how do you take into account a Philly station ?

I'm sorry... I confused New York with the national scope. *facepalm*

While we're on WABC, I wouldn't count them as the best-run talk station in the country, either. Far from it. WLW/Cincinnati, KGO/San Fran or KFI/Los Angeles would get THAT honor. Maybe even WBAL/Baltimore gets some consideration.

WABC should be more locally-oriented and attuned to the region instead of being a syndication machine 22 hours out of the broadcast day. But as long as Citadel-Cumulus owns it, that won't happen. Expect more cheapo programming like Doug McIntrye or John Batchelor, and mediocre ratings as a result.

For WABC, not being local in afternoon drive - in spite of Hannity being based out of WABC itself - is a major weakness. Joe Crummey can't be really helping as a lead-in to Rush. Throw that in a combination with my previous thesis on people suffering burnout after the midterms... and it's not that complicated to understand IMO.

Amen !! Right on !! I would throw in WSB as well (That's WSB minus Hannity). WABC's weakest point IMO is Hannity his show drags down the afternoon ratings. Seems like they must carry his show.
