Radio reception in Cincinnati airport

Next Friday, I'm going to have a three-hour layover in the Cincinnati airport, so that'll definitely give me some time to observe the radio stations there. I will assume that I shouldn't have any problems with the FMs (or at the least the most powerful ones) while I'm there. What about the AMs? <P ID="signature">______________

As you may or may not know, the airport's in Kentucky. It's a few miles west of downtown as the crow flies. If you're here during the day, you should be OK. At night, who knows?

WCKY-AM 1530 is Air America and their towers aren't far from the airport. Their 50KW shhould be strong there. WBOB-AM 1160 is the Salem talker and also has towers near the airport. They're 5KW, but they shoot northeast away from CVG. Still should be able to get them. WNOP-AM 740 is Catholic radio across the river and to the east near downtown. They run 25KW, but they're really directional and shoot toward CVG. The other closest AMs are Salem's religious WTSJ-AM 1050 at 1KW next to the Brent Spence Bridge on I-75 in Covington, KY. Next closest is probably Gospel WCVG-AM 1320. They're in Covington, KY east of I-75 and they only run 500watts. "The Big One" 700 WLW is a monster 50KW signal, but they're tower is way out in Warren County near Kings Island. Still should be able to get them. WKRC-AM 550 is even further east in Kentucky, and they run 5KW. You should be able to get them, but they're prone to interference. The last of the decent signals is WSAI-AM 1360. They run 5KW, but they're tower is in north-west suburban Cincinnati. maybe not so good at CVG.

Others to try for: 1480-WCIN and 1230-WDBZ. Both are pretty weak. You can also get WLAP-AM 630 from Lexington and WHAS-AM 840 from Louisville. WIBC-AM 1070 in Indy comes through sometimes.

Let us know what you get

Thanks, Oscar. I am aware of the airport being in Kentucky. You did mention the Louisville and Lexington stations and I was wondering if I would be able to get them in the area. I will be there during the day, so all the AMs you mentioned should be able to come through at least with a decent signal.

Actually BOB's site is slightly southwest of the airport so if they shoot to the NE, they should hit the airport. I know because the towers are right across the street from my house and I can see the airport control tower from my back yard!
