Radio reception problems in central SC

So I'm having to spend two weeks in the town of Newberry about 30 mins north of Columbia and man oh man the radio reception is crap! During the day for AM I can only get the local 1000kw station WKDK. One morning I got WVOC but not for long. Seems I can only get WBT at night as well as all the other 50kwers. I can get WBT's FM simulcast sometimes. Which brings me to the FM band problems here. On a good day I can pick up 7 or 8 FM stations. Then today I only could pick up three...THREE and one was from Augusta! Why is radio so crappy in the Newberry/Union area? Perhaps it's a reflection of how crappy the two towns really are?

We're still in early Fall. Lots of atmospheric issues including ducting and the like, particularly from 9-10p through the overnight until 9-10a, depending on how soon and how much the atmosphere warms up.

WOW unless things have changed you being in Newberry you should be able to get most of the Columbia FM's plus the GSP FM's. I am sure Powell who lives in that general area can also help ya... CC

There has to be something wrong with your radio. And I can get all kinds of stuff. I am, BTW, at WKDK till 6 PM ( 1:30- 6 PM ..... till 7:30 on Thursday. And this week only also from 8:30 AM until 10 AM. Or you can email me at w4opw at yahoo.com

Ah thanks. You know I wondered if it was my radio or not. Today I made a list of the stations I was able to get clearly using the seek button. The rest were either coming in poorly or not at all.

AM band:

890AM
950AM (WORD in Spantanburg I presume)
1240AM WKDK

FM band:

95.5
97.5
98.9
100.5
104.7

You should get the 1170 Spanish Lexington, SC station. I have NO trouble getting WVOC during the day, at night not so well. There are so many I get I can't remember them alll .... :). I am a radio collector and well... I often can't refuse a decent radio at a junk store if it works and isn't overpriced.

You should get a LOT more FM's. 95.5 is the Newberry College LPFM.

Lets see Greenville 93.7, 94.5, um...er... 92.5, 102.5 107.3... and a whole bunch more.

Augusta 104.3...and I don't remeber most of the FM's there...

HEY I work at an AM station..... I am allergic to FM....ah, that's MY story and I'm sticking to it!!

So my reception problems seem to have cleared up a little bit I actually can now get WISW 1320 on the am dial. I noticed my car radio works best when there aren't so many trees around interesting.
