radio recommendations

I've been lucky in that my 1995 GESR3 works terrific, no tuning pot issue, and is probably a better performer than my SR2. I got one of the good ones, I guess.

I hadn't heard that CC Radio's can have tuning pot issues, that's a new one. Sad. They have a solid rep as a MW performer otherwise.

I have one of the "good" 3's, too. It does better than the original or 2.

My CCradio EP suffers from overload problems on the high end of the band. In a side by side test with the "3" - it came in second.

I use the CCrane CCRadio 2E for most of my radio listening and it is an exceptional radio with just a few minor shortcomings (in my opinion). It's digital so if you prefer analog it may not be the best fit. It has great reception though...better than any radio I have owned previous.
I'm a bit late responding to this, but I too regard the C. Crane CC2E as my favorite portable FM / AM radio. Granted, previous models of the CC Radio have had their share of issues including less than stellar audio, display failures, other malfunctions, and quality control issues. My experience is that the CC2E far exceeds all previous models in both reliability and performance. As with any high-performance radio, especially those at this price point, some unit to unit variability in performance is expected. I have two CC2E sets, one made in September 2013 and the other in October 2015. After extensive comparisons, I found that both have practically identical RF performance on all bands, which is to say they are excellent! Interestingly, these two sets differ slightly in their tone of audio. While they both exhibit very pleasing sound, the set made in 2015 has slightly richer tone. Another interesting difference is that the set made in 2013 has a default time display. When a frequency is selected, it will display briefly and then revert to the time display. Later releases of the CC2E, including those made in 2015, can be adjusted so that the frequency will display by default.

While the CC2E is likely not the ideal travel radio for most people due to its size and weight, it is absolutely the most pleasurable I have ever used and owned. By the way, I could talk about this radio for hours and happily write down my thoughts and impressions if anyone cares to read them.

Regards,
Wayne
