"Radio & Records" to be purchased by "Billboard"...

Billboard magazine was expected to announce Thursday the acquisition of Radio & Records, its 33-year-old Los Angeles-based competitor, sources said.

The future now appears uncertain for R&R, the venerable music trade publication that has always maintained a strong focus on the radio side of the business. Billboard operates its own radio-driven publication, Billboard Radio Monitor.

Billboard buying Radio & Records

Almost was going to put this into Coast to Coast since it involves a publication about _radio_ but I'll put it here.

[MOD NOTE: This was moved from Off the Air, as it fits better in this catagory. It is a duplicate post, but wanted to give both posters credit for posting the news. Thanks!

Billboard mag to aquire Radio & Records

[MOD NOTE: This was moved in from the Atlanta Board. Also wishing to give credit for posting this big story. Also, this was Edited for Copyright, PLEASE WHEN YOU SEE A COPYRIGHT DO NOT POST THE FULL STORY ON RADIO-INFO. When you see the "c" with a circle around it, it is copyrighted. There are laws that restrict people from using complete articles. Post a line, then incluse the link to the story so the proper organization get the credit for the story. Full story can be found in the Hollywood Reporter. Also see Business of Radio on Radio-Info for the Billboard press release.
Thank you.

I wonder what the human toll will be in the inevitable "streamlining of business operations to maximize efficiency," or whatever the euphemism for the layoffs will be called.

Hey, at least Erica Farber's assured of a job.

Billboard did not purchase the magazine. VNU did. VNU owns Billboard and a number of other publications.

Since R&R is a radio pub with very, very little music biz news (and that restricted to things that have to do with radio) and Billboard is a music biz publication (I have not seen it in a radio staiton for years and years), I do not see that the Hollywood Reporter did a particularly good job on this. They misidentified the buyer and called R&R a competitor to Billboard, both wrong.
