Radio Sales SUCKS !!!

Probably one of the worst jobs in radio would have to be radio sales....Hardly anyone wants to spend any money right now on advertising.....The pay basically sucks...commission jobs are a dime a dozen...might as well go and sell furniture, autos and mattresses...youll make more money......thats why just about all of the broadcasting companies here in so.jersey are always advertising for Account Executives...an expensive name for a pretty lousy commission job...where most of your time is wasted on trying to talk someone into spending money that they really dont want to spend....especially now with all of this crazy healthcare garbage where no one really knows just how much this is going to cost...and with the economy being so lousy...with a REAL unemployment rate of almost 20%...not the bull that the AC Press is celebrating...which is pure nonsense.....anyway...if you want to make any kind of serious cash...you will stay away from radio sales...as most people have found out the hard way....waste of your time and gas...and very little to show for it...

Correction. AC Radio Sales sucks...a dying market with no growth what so ever. Dollar a hollar radio stations = small money deals = tiny commissions. I know sales reps at NJ 101.5, and also in Monmouth/Ocean and in Middlesex/Somerset/Union that make a LOT of money. There are many six figure earners selling great NJ radio stations...they're just not in AC. Managers too.

Should be "Small market radio sales sucks." AC is not specific to sucking. It's all over in Peoria, IL and other little markets. But yeah, being in sales right now someone should go for the big ticket items. Or, if you're really smart, work a good home based business (but that's not for everyone).

Actually, are AC's doldrums a product of Philly radio being more accessible to advertisers in the AC market (e.g. cheaper) than NYC radio's expense to advertisers in its outlying markets?

Is *anyone* making any money in AC?

Reps in NJ are saying that they've never seen the kind of deals (lower rates, bonus, etc) that they are seeing from both NYC and Philly...could be a first quarter thing. More likely it's the only way for them to try and get their piece of the pie. The Z100's, Lite FM's, B101's, WMMR's and other top rated stations are less likely to cut deals. It's the middle to bottom tier stations that do it out of desperation. It makes it harder for the NJ stations - but if the reps show the waste involved when a suburban business buys time in NYC or Philly, they should be able to hold on and even grow what they have.
