This is going to be amusing ! I'de like to see, how RS is going to handle the reception problems, with the Receptor HD - a long-wire antenna won't cut it, so being inside a building, I wonder if they will try and mount the suppplied 7-foot dipole antenna outside ! :D

1) RS salemen are generally uneducated about the products they sell.
2) The Cellular Phone and Satellite Radio displays will compete directly with the HD Radio display.
3) RS just layed-off 500 employees, and is obvioulsy having financial problems.
4) I submitted my review on RS, but it hasn't shown up yet (there already is one negative review).
5) People hate shopping at RS, because of the sales pressure (used to ask for phone numbers). Even David laughed at me for getting a printer at RS - people shop at Circuit City and Best Buy for electronics.
6) Very few people are going to spend $300 on an unattractive, plain-jane AM/FM radio. The Receptor HD is being priced at $300, the one on Amazon has now dropped to $240 (the HD Radio Cartel must be getting desperate).The nice Satellite Radio boom-box, at RS, was priced at only $69.
 
I guess your criticism of HD Radio not being available at major retail chains has gone down the drain, so now it's time to criticize the retail chains instead? How very Hippo-Critical, HippoRadio.
 
Actually, I am laughing more at the HD Radio Cartel's choice of RS for its BIG rollout ! :D I bet, that Circuit City and Best Buy have thumbed their noses at this farse !
 
I did forget to mention in #2 below, that there is also a very nice iPod display at RS, which I noticed today, when I bought a cordless phone. It consisted mainly of home units that iPods can be played through and the units were truly very nice looking. Jesus, the HD Radio Cartel is really dreaming, or just plain out-of-it, if they think the Receptor HD, or any other piece of garbage HD radio is going to be able to compete with these other technologoes ! HD Radio is a dead horse !
 
"RadioShack is rolling out distribution of HD radio. Although this may be perceived as a threat to Sirius, I think it will actually drive consumers to chose satellite radio. HD receivers are $299 starting price, while Sirius is $49.99. As for the quality of content...well, that goes without saying!"
 
Actually, I take all I said about the high cost of the receptor......I remember when the Sony plug and play XM recieve was $249 , it was a joke, the little reciever sat in the ash tray and I had about 100 feet of wire running around inside my car and out a window. The wire scratched the paint on my car from flapping in the breeze.

This story was related to me by a friend of an acquaintence of a friend of a business associate:

"I went into a Radio Shack this past weekend. I asked if there were any HD radios to look at. The salesman was quick to point out that they had satellite radio.

I said, 'No, this is HD radio'.

The salesman said, 'You are mistaken. The term "HD" is used in TV as in HDTV.'

I said, 'No sir, YOU are mistaken. There is also an HD radio and I would like to see one. Radio Shack sells them.'

So the salesman went to the computer, looked it up and said, 'Oh yeah, I guess we do. But we don't appear to have any in stock.'

I left the store. HD is NEVER going to sell that way!"

This story sounds eerily similar to my favorite:

"When I was in New York City yesterday, I went to the RadioShack on 7th avenue between 30th and 31st street, and I asked if they had HD radios. The sales assistant pointed to the Sirius display. I pointed out that Sirius was NOT HD radio! He insisted that it was because it is a "digital high definition radio". Then I said that I heard an ad promoting Z100's HD radio saying that there is no monthly fee. He said that there is a monthly fee for "High Definition satellite radio." I asked him if I could hear Hot 97, KTU, and Z100 on the "HD" radio and he said yes. Then I walked out of the store.I thought my own area was bad. How is the average person supposed to purchase an HD radio in Manhattan!" :D

Gosh, I don't think Satellite Radio was met with such apathy - HD Radio is depending on a small band of supports to push a product, that no one cares about ! Even retailers don't care about HD Radio, that is why they lead people over to the Satellite Radio displays. Just like at the 2006 CES convention, HD Radio was ignored and people were quoted saying that they knew the future is in other technologies. Pilot to co-pilot - I think we have a problem ! :D

99% of people have no clue as to what HD radio is(and many of the 1% who do know don't care for it all that much). This includes the people that are supposed to be selling them.

People do know what satellite radios and iPods are.

Which do you think they'll buy this holiday season?
