Radio Shack SA-10 amplifier

Hello all,

We have been using one of these little amplifiers for years to patch
the studio and production rooms together (allowing the production room
to go on-air if necessary.

I'm looking for a unit similar to this for a new project and am having trouble
finding any kind of inexpensive amp..anyone know where I could find one?
I'm not quite sure where to look!

Thanks for your help!
______________

It would seem to me that you need less of an amplifier and more of a switch if all you want to do is switch between one studio and another in an airchain.

Not as inexpensive as something from RatShack, but an excellent piece of gear would be a Broadcast Tools SS 4.1III which lists for under $300 and is available from pretty much any broadcast supply dealer.

You could then switch between air and production (and have room to put a CD or automation output straight to air, too).
______________

Also has nice feature that it will always go to one channel if the power dumps, and you can remotely control the switch.

We have two of SS4's and two of SS'2's (for EAS switching)

I just installed four of the Henry Engineering AutoSwitch/Silence Sensors.
$221.86 each from BSW. If you turn the silence sensor off it might do what you need.

I use the silence sensor to monitor program output from the control room which passes thru from input one. The silence sense commands an old Gentner VRC-2000 to call my cell. If necessary, I can use the VRC-2000 to switch the output from input one to input two for emergency audio from a CD player. That keeps something on the air until I can get to the station.

SA10's are on ebay all the time.
I have a couple I use as cheap line level boosters.
The only problem is they are prone to noise, so they are
no good for air chain use.

A small mixer is the Rolls MiniMix VI which might do the trick.
It doesn't even cost $100 on ebay.

eBay can be a saviour in finding cheap things, even still today.

For a cheap alternative that I think works well are the RDL Stick-On products. They appear to have something for everything.
