Radio Shack trying to dump remaining Accurian HDs

Remember how HD radios flew off the shelves on Black Friday ?

Wow. Great job on the completely misleading headline. Where does it say ANYWHERE that they are "Dumping the remaining HD Radios?" Maybe they have some more coming in, or that the MFR decided to mark them down.

Are you so desperate that you have to lie to make a point?

Just read elsewhere that Hyundi is going to be offering HD radios in at least one of their 2008 models. Let them dream on, HD radio is making inroads.

Slight problems:

1) HD Radio is being offered only as an expensive OPTION ($500) on LUXERY cars, including the 2008 Hyundi PREMIUM sports sedan, as well as, Jaguar.

2) In 2005, Hyundai broke an industry barrier by announcing it would be the first automaker to standardize satellite radio in ALL of its vehicles:

"Hyundai, Jaguar to Offer HD Radio"

3) Here is an on-going poll at Bimmerfest, which has been there for months, for Satellite versus HD Radio:

4) Just because HD Radio is an expensive option, does not mean that consumers will opt for it - kind of like with table-top HD radios. No wonder, RS is putting a rebate on the Accurian HD, again.

Let me tell you something. If I were a betting man I wouldn't be betting on your side. Everyday new IBOC announcements are occuring. Doesn't sound to me that this technology is failing. As a matter of fact if AM stereo had gotten as successfull it might have survived. DOn't yu hate waking up each morning having to create more rediculous scenarios as IBOC just gets bigger and bigger.

HD Radio= More Choices, great sound

Right now I'm listening to Joke-Joke the Clear Channel Comedy Channel

Man I'd hate to see how some of you guys would have reacted when FM came out.

In the minds of consumers, HD Radio never took-off:

If bunches of HD radios were being sold, then there would be significant activity at hdradio.com, where consumers would find those secret stations-between-the-stations - hdradio.com even has a links in autoblog.com, where there is significant activity:

"Jaguar joins BMW in offering HD Radio"

"HD Radio receivers are available on the 2008 XJ line-up as an option. It has a Suggested Retail Price of $500. For more information on HD Radio, please visit www.hdradio.com."

Well, that make sense - putting existing Accurians on rebate, while a bunch more are coming in - fact is, Radio Shack is trying to get rid of the Accurians, because they are not selling.

OK then, prove it. Show us anything from RadioShack stating that they are "trying to get rid of the Accurians". Time to prove your words. Show us a letter, press release, anything.

It's easy to make stuff up. It another to actually provide some facts (other than blogger's "opinions").

Radio Shack introduced the Accurian with a rebate. Now they're offering the same rebate. Big deal!

But eventually they WILL (of course) "dump the remaining Accurians" as happens with all products when they reach the end of their production cycle. Old radios will go, and new ones will come. Not exactly earth-shattering news! The Accurian was introduced in the fall of 2007. We may well be closer to the end of it's production cycle than the beginning. It wouldn't surprise me. Frankly, for 200 bucks (regular price) they could have done a lot better with speakers and amplifier...something that actually sounded good...like the Sangean, or Boston Acoustics (which apparently has a worse tuner, but obviously better speaker(s)).
