Radio Shack U-75R UHF Antenna for FM

This is Probably NOT a good choice for distant FM Band reception. UHF frequencies range from 300 MHZ and up, but the UHF TV channels for which this antenna is designed start around 470 MHZ. The FM band runs from 88-108 MHZ. You might have better luck with a VHF-ONLY TV antenna (54-216 MHZ), but a "dedicated" multi-element FM antenna designed for 88-108 MHZ would be BEST.

Something like a Radio Shack VU90XR or VU190XR would work for FM. They were good TV performers.

Thanks guys.

I've done a little more research last evening and ordered an Antennacraft FM6. This'll be the first exterior FM antenna, which I'll be able to play with, in nearly 30 years. Inexpensive and compact design were considerations...nothing fancy, but I'll keep you folks updated.

Cheers!

Tincap, I have one as well. You won't be disappointed.

The current Antennacraft 6-element = the old Radio Shack one. I have both....I bought the one at the Shack just as they stopped selling them; the Antennacraft I use on trips along with the former R Shack VU90XR...the 90 does just about as well, and sometimes I wonder why I have 2 FM antennas!

I had one attic-mounted in the early 80's thru mid 90's...and it worked well:
from just east of Nashville, Atlanta FM was not uncommon (94.1 especially).
Favorite was the 99.7 routine...WMSR was still broadcasting beautiful music from Manchester, TN from 7a-10pm only: at 10:01pm, the national anthem would play...carrier would drop...and instantly, POWER 99 Atlanta would pop in (if I was pointed SE). Depending on direction, regular reception from Chattanooga, Knoxville, Huntsville, Birmingham all possible. Tropo could be crazy, too...but that happens on a dipole, too. Wish I still had it from time to time...but most of the favorable frequencies are now occupied by much-closer transmitters.

These antennas are wimpy by comparison to the ones you used to be able to buy... I have a 13 element yagi made by Antennacraft (?) that I bought from C.Crane when they used to sell them. This is my pickup antenna for WNIU, which feeds my Part 15 AM translator (yes-- FM to AM)! I wish I had a pair of them up on the tower. I suppose very few people care enough about FM reception these days to justify a significant investment in their antenna system.

I know somebody who owns the APS-13. Nice FM antenna!

It really depends on where one lives, and which receivers are used, to get the most enjoyment outta these antennas. It doesn't help much in the big cities, where (a) too many stations crowd the FM band, and (2) so many nice frequencies are I-Blocked.
