Radio Shack's DX-302 General Coverage Receiver

OK, I realize this is now considered a "budget" receiver considering what Icom and the like offer today but I picked it up at a very good price. I'm looking for pros, cons and anything that may help in getting some good use out of this rig.

Obviously I plan on recapping it since it is probably along the lines of 30 years old. I came across a great reference page of DX-302 hints but wondered if anybody has any other bits o' wisdom to pass on. I hope this rig will tide me over while I save up for something a little more serious.

Well.......don't leave it sitting in your office at work. Tandy never really documented it but DX-302's do have tendency to grow legs and wander over to your co-worker's desk in the cubicle across the department!

From experience......

The quality communications have vastly improved over the years no matter what price range your looking for. If this receiver is 99.00, there are some many others that perform as well or better for the same price. Radio Shack was never good for intermod , even with a triple conversion, but with the lack of interest of SW, the quality has improved. There are budget receivers for 69.00 to 39.00...but forget those...the filtering on most are horrible. I had trouble receiving a 5,000 watt local. and most at the range do not have uSB, LSB, or SSB.
